What's new

Need for a proper land planning

Only now, just before another election, minister Qadir is talking about expanding those roads that were built before 1971. Whatever is the country's name, BD is a 70 year old grandfather, and you talk as if the British left it only yesterday. Why we should be so mean minded as to blame others when we ourselves are not talented to do anything good by ourselves? This talk only character is why only we remain an LDC. It is a shame!!
This is again a baseless claim. There is no trace of pre 1971 period road in Bangladesh. Building 4 lane highway is not that cheap that all our main highway will be that level by now. This country is just emerging from LDC and barely crossed the lower middle income thresh-hold.Money was simply not there. It is true that we are some years behind constructing 4 lane road. Initiative should have been taken 5 years earlier. But still, our performance is not entirely hopeless when we see similar or somewhat better infrastructure country than ours. In Bangladesh, 10 percent of length of highway is now is 4 lane(369 km 4 lane out of 3812 km national highway) vs 24 percent in India(26,000 km 4 lane out of 115,000 km national highway). We are 5-7 years behind India in constructing 4 lane highways. This is understandable considering the early momentum gained by Indian economy due to various advantage relative to Bangladesh.

But it seems, you always compare in your mind of Bangladesh's development and efficiency with those of Japan. Completely forgetting the divergent trajectory these two country experienced in their history.Japan was never colonized and was never subjected to colonial repression and exploitation. The most damaging aspect of colonialism is that, it destroy the self-respect, self-confidence and self-worth of a nation. As a historically Independent, isolated, densely populated, self-sufficient island nation state, Japan developed a strong culture of 'taking in own hands of it's own destiny' mindset to overcome all the limitation imposed by the nature. This type of 'upbringing' is not true for most of the countries in the world.Bangladesh, which was doubly subjected to colonial exploitation for 224 years and gained independence only 46 years ago and started to democratic rules and market economy only some 25 years ago, that type of high performance expectation is little too much.Let Bangladesh develop according to it's own course. It may not be high octane speed like Japan or China but developing at decent speed nonetheless.

He has turned into another idune.

Not much point trying to reason with that kind of mindset.

You must be under something's influence to claim this laughable idea that BD is still relying on some thrown away road infrastructure development during that era.

But then you hypocritically assert that exact same "laughable idea" when the narrative suits you in some other way:

https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/elec...e-eve-of-partition-1947.557618/#post-10476892

You are a worthless inconsistent cockroach (actually its offensive to cockroaches I suppose, they at least cannot help what they are). This is why 1 million of your people have to leave each year to seek basic medical treatment from India (as basic as mere X-rays), and selling LAND to do so in many cases:

https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/bang...-6-million-in-10-months.532724/#post-10078308

i.e the state of the BD quacks-claiming-to-be-doctors like you. Instead of atoning for your HORRENDOUS cockroach quality and focusing on becoming something better than a roach, you spend time spewing back and forth with no consistency and basic logic over here and wherever else....and the common people suffer for it.

Ingrate disgusting cockroach kind of hyper-atheist, BAL-scum with no consistency you are. This is why this kind of phenomenon is now going to keep getting louder and louder...."BBS feels-growth" = actual inflation = poor suffer and starve its ok:

Because of "doctors" like you (and may you rot in hell when time comes for making BD people suffer when you have the time and opportunity to spend on THEM rather than uselessly frittering it away here for some BAL feel good), one can only imagine the state of bureaucrats and govt elite. BD elite are very atrocious set of people it seems....and will be what dooms their country if they dont change in large enough number.

Do not please lie. All the roads from Zilla to Zilla were built before 1968 when Ayub Khan was the President. Learn from history if you have insufficient knowledge. But, why this BD is just emerging from an LDC now when its two cousins have graduated from it long ago? It is because the people here are not patriotic. They steal govt money, cheat and take pride in getting bribes. BD people are the most inefficient but talkative people of all the nations in the world except, perhaps, the Nigerians.

If you were not born before, you must ask your parents about the road system that prevailed before 1971. All were not that dark as the AL cronies like you and @UKBengali come here to claim and weep all the time like women. BD people always blame others for their own shortfalls. The reality remains that whatever was accomplished on the road system in the 24 years before 1971 have not been done during the last 46 years since 1971.

How inept we are!! Do you remember the newly built Dhaka-Ctg. road collapsed only within three months of its expansion works? This is what we are. But, here you are claiming otherwise.

Need more seven storied slum for these guys around Dhaka, also in other cities across the country. But should be for short term basis. And many such projects in different price categories for middle income people as well. In old Dhaka Govt has initiated a good pilot project. Hope it materializes and implemented in other parts of old Dhaka as well.

Actually, the people themselves will build their own moderate houses, but they need jobs where they can work and earn money. Govt. should focus more on job creation. It can only be accomplished when many more factories (non-textile) are built in the country. The GoB is shouting on GDP growth, but I do not see any real accomplishment. People have to go to the desert countries in millions to irrigate the debt trees and sweep the roads there. Whatever is the growth, it is almost due to their labor in the foreign countries, no doubt, but this is not the right approach. Govt. has completely failed to accomplish the goal of job creation.

Actually there is a list of very good projects like parliament, dams, roads, medical colleges, universities, power plans, jute mills, nuclear proposal, sugar mills, paper mills, agriculture and irrigaion system, WAPDA, tele-communication, TV and radio stations etc.

Well it's hundred percent true . If someone cut me piece by piece , I won't believe that bangladesh medical service is improving.
@Nilgiri , give me an authentic information if you know .
What is the diagonostic center commission for doctors in india? If you have any Dr friend /relative or anyone who will tell you , then please provide the information.
However BD doctors get 30% commission.
So lets assume that ,you need 2000 tk for a taste , then the doctor get 600 tk ( 30%) from it . Probably I got the information from authentic source .
But that's fine , if it's the rule of BD I honestly wish his prosperity.
If they earn huge money that's fine , I have no problem .
But I just request them ( BD doctors) to provide better medical service , so that we don't need to travel to India .
But will they provide us that better medical service we deserve?
Or are they capable providing better service?
Only they know better .

In 1947-1971 period, Pak regime used to build 100 km road in west Pakistan and 10 km road in East Pakistan. And you are doing monkey dance here for that 10 km. You will put many Rajakar into shame. Even Jamat agree that, there was huge discrimination against East Pakistan, but they did not approve breaking their pyara Pakistan for that matter.Even Ayub's foot licker Monem Khan once said, তাদের বেলায় তারবেলা, আমাদের বেলায় কোনবেলা ? You will even put that Rajakar into shame.

You are kidding right @UKBengali? I thought you are a tolerant BAL supporter, but was I wrong?

Because of some critisim of BAL and his opinion make you think @bluesky is turning to another idune? Oh boy!
So what's the next! And also who is the next target after @bluesky :D

Difference between criticism and blindly putting down BD. His "criticism" has turned into following @Nilgiri narrative that BD economic data is false.

GoB and its party cronies are shouting a developed BD by 2041, but how many decades it will take to get rid of these slums, here and there in Dhaka, and give their residents a better life? More than 70 yrs have passed since 1947 and one can see all these symptoms of a traditional Bangladesh for the next few centuries.

Go to Manila, it is very beautiful city. But, behind your Hotel you will see many slums like the Dhaka ones. A poor country has a knack to build nice looking roadside buildings and show them off to the foreigners as the real picture of the country. But, the foreigners know very well what is the real BD or the Philippines.

@bluesky do you know the picture that you have shared why still such slum is there in a vip area and specially on Banani or Gulshan lake? It is a mechanism to gradually grab it by political elites. Hope you keep that in mind. Even in wealthy cities like London or New York has slum and ghettos.

Bangladesh has been said will be a developed country with per capita gdp around 12000 usd by 2041. Why do you think it’s not attainable? We are not talking about 60k+ usd per capita gdp that USA has now.

Wait I said all BD economic data is false? I just said lot of it isn't exactly true. As seen by the declining calorie intake and declining household income (that someone else figured out once CPI index applied) BBS put out in contrast to its near complete rosy economic appraisals earlier.

Regardless of the list of real accomplishment that you have provided above, here Kumar @UKBengali claims there was no work in East Pakistan, and now, @Homo Sapiens claims there was no road construction before 1971. What an Awami crap these disillusioned posters are repeating all the time!! Can these posters refute my saying that all the Zilla to Zilla roads were basically built before 1971, and a similar quantity of work was not done during the last 46 years?

Why people should lie and blame others for our own ineptitude? Their theme is - BD was not developed before 1971 because of west Pakistan, and now BD is not being developed because of India. This is our attitude. We do not want to take blames, but blame others for living in an LDC for the last seven decades. Look at South Korea, what it did after the 1945 end of WWll. They do not blame Japan, but learn from it and develop their own. They also do not depend upon the Sky Power to help develop their country.

All your pet projects are still in the mother's womb even after 46 years. It is alright that the GoB is trying to accomplish something good to the country. Better late than never, though it is too little considering the time span of half a century after 1971.

However, please do not blame others for our own failure as a nation that keeps our status as an LDC. But, I believe, BD is not yet even a full LDC. It remains a traditional society where people think the way their forefathers used to think 1500 years ago. Modernization requires to get rid of village or frog mentality.

You are talking out of blue and with baseless political vendetta against west Pakistan, same as AL. Point is not how many kms were built in the west and how many in the east. Point is how many kms in total was built before 1971 in the east and how many kms have been built during the last 46 years after 1971.

Have you ever compared the maps of both east and west? Why do not you think that west is a vast territory, where road building was easier and less costlier than it is in the watery marsh land of east? So, a larger length of road construction is possible in the west than it is in the east with the same amount of fund.

A person does not have to be a B.Sc civil engineer to understand that a very high construction cost is required for a road that needs a 5 m high earth filling work. Earthwork is the most expensive component of a road, although it is not readily understood by the normal people. Usually, people see only the asphalt or concrete.

I am not telling there was no discrepancy before 1971. But, where do you find discrepancy after 1971, when road construction got a minor importance? Now, AL bigots will come out saying it is India that do not allow BD to build anything!!!
