Need for a proper land planning

.
Man I really don't want to get into a long one with you, as it's quite irrelevant what you or I think. The health stats are from UNICEF, and the rest of the world accepts them.

https://data.unicef.org/country/bgd/

I don't accept any of it actually. BD has to prove its credibility first is what I am saying. The conflicting data coming out slowly is illustrating what I have been saying all along. The more you dig, the shakier the foundations...the higher the world standard rejections.

Tell me how would you conceivably collect child mortality any different to calorie intake (from HIES). Actually start with the sample size BD is using for both right now. Tell me if you even know them....then we can proceed on to the sensitivity of both to propaganda bias manipulation filters.

There are clear definitive conclusions from such data (assuming it was indeed collected in non biased format)...it shows Bangladeshis already consuming low calories are consuming even fewer.

The diet "moving away" from rice is only a good thing if your total calorie intake (since its already so low) does not decline, otherwise the poorest segment of people suffer even more....especially if they are who are suffering from the food inflation the most.

Not to mention you completely avoided the decrease of real household income (from 2010 to 2016). Is that also a "no definite conclusion" thing (given BBS disingenuously in a rush to paint success ...didnt even apply a CPI deflator in their report)?

Subjective according to? You are so behind in the level to the peers you want to desperately compare with, subjective component argument simply does not hold by the magnitude at play here. Not to mention that there is nothing subjective about BD getting stuck in the low score for so long....i.e the trends by your own larger population opinion (and not just yours personally) are that its the same as it always was.

We don't even have to approach the objective components of the argument.

Ridiculous arguments across the board. First you don't accept BD data but then you use the vaguest of this data to make sweeping statements about BD. Lower calorie intake is just that, nothing more nothing less - the rest is speculation from a biased entity.

Regarding real income too, u are obsessed with this one chart. Here's some charts for you, let them balance your mind. Life expectancy is up, GDP is up, GDP per capita is up, primary education is up, GNI per capita is up. Poverty is down.

https://data.worldbank.org/country/bangladesh

Let me guess it's all evil BBS doing right. They're becoming worse than ISI for you.

And here you are anti corruption pujari who believes that a country run by a military junta, with the worst human rights record in recent memory, worst press freedom or civil rights in the region is somehow less corrupt because a survey said so? Their placing exposes the entire report for the emotional claptrap that it is.

@bluesky and @Skies , ironically the 2 of you are more like black clouds.

You are showing pictures of a slum in Dhaka as an example of poor development. I say the fact this slum remains on some of the most expensive land in Bd is credit to our society. Many vultures are eying that land but none could have it. Here is an example of negotiated change and u should welcome it.
Do not sing please a cloud song whenever you cannot tolerate a shattered dream of a developed BD in 2041 by watching a real life picture. BD has a very bad road system, specially in the cities and towns. All these are full of garbage, broken footpaths are not useful for the pedestrians, a half hour rainfall causes knee-deep flood on the roads, sewerage system is insufficient. Yet, some of you guys are talking BD is a first world country in the very near future.

Guys like you dream that you are already living in a Paradise. You are so accustomed to these awful scenes that you cannot think otherwise. Since people are as satisfied as you are, the leaders do not care about to rectify things. They are as complacent as you guys are. But, anyway, what is so bad about only one real photograph, when there are hundreds of such places in Dhaka? Hope, these slums will look like a part of Japan by 2041.

Ive never said we'd be like Japan in 2041, I said we are much improved - why cant you admit that is true? Tomorrow with AI and automation, BD may end up sliding down again that is realism, so you should recognise both sides of the picture.

The cities have been here for decades it is not a recent failure. The change you are looking for is a great fire type change that happenned in London, are people prepared to pay that price?

It is unnecessary to escape from BD urban reality by citing the great London fire that occurred 350 years ago in 1666. It consumed 13,200 houses and most of the buildings of the City authorities. It is estimated to have destroyed the homes of 70,000 of the City's 80,000 inhabitants.

Civil engineering and urban planning were not as efficient in 1666 as they are now. But, the Britishers are a proud and determined group of people. So, the London city fathers planned to re-develop. Japan did similar things in much larger scale throughout the country after WWll, and the same thing was done by the British after the cessation of Hitler bombings of London.

Issue is here the capability of nations. British are certainly not as meek as BD people, and the Japanese are not as lazy as us. Japan had learned from Europe and US most of the modern technologies and applied to develop their own country. But, BD people are only fond of talking and day-dreaming while they do not work hard to learn from others.

It is certainly possible to fix many of the civic problems in Dhaka and other cities. Issue is are we that determined to fit the main Dhaka roads with a proper drainage system and a garbage collection system? Instead of working on it the political and administrative authorities try to get foreign loans in Dollar, a very large part of which they would steal.

BD engineering companies and people must be allowed to work on these civil/civic projects. How practical it is to ask another country to build the civic amenities of our Capital? It is just an impossible task for any of them. I find no initiative to include the local brains to redevelop Dhaka city. It is certainly not impossible, but it will take a little time. However, the authorities must prepare a much thought out Master Plan.

The reason i mention the great fire is that London then was like Dhaka now, there were unplanned buildings everywhere and the infrastructure could not support the dense population. Even the British could not fix their old city until it was destroyed - the fire is what cleared the area for development.

My point is that it is an almost impossible task to build a new city without destroying the existing one. Its because of this we have to come up with compromise solutions like overhead roads and trainlines, so it's not as solvable as you are making out. I'm afraid no Bd or any other engineers can get away from this fact.

The health stats are from UNICEF

No they aren't "from" UNICEF. UNICEF just publishes them (like it does with North Korea, Anarchist Africa and the rest of your peers ranked as corruption hellholes with gross institutional underdevelopment), just like IMF publishes what BBS similarly says on real GDP etc...even though it is quite clear a huge part would be counted as inflation (and thus not make the grade) in any other country. Same goes for all the other sites you think the stats are "from". They are just transmitting BBS like they transmit the glorious north korean regime stats too....because who the hell cares just how badly you lot are actually doing to verify (past the rare instances like liveability index where Dhaka is ranked along shithole warzones)?

That is precisely why most of your people now earn/consume less than they did in 2010 according to your BBS....your denial that there is a mounting problem. 70% poverty beggar ghetto type in UK has to cling to and believe in some redemption for his sorry *** beggar lot back in BD I suppose.

Honestly is it even thinkable that 170 million people assemble 580 cars in a year (i.e when it comes to hard facts that dont need BBS).....or have to send 1 million beggar medical refugees (Even for just X-rays) to India YEARLY, selling their land even...and they are supposedly supposed to be low mortality and high life expectancy as BBS says? A country with no competent X-ray facilities apparently (as evidenced again by the NON-BBS numbers in play) braying like North Korea that no its people are not dieing in droves lol. Just pathetic.

Doesn't take long for your little brain to implode and resort to personal attacks does it.

I wonder do you really come out of your big Bungalow some time? What automation are you talking about when industries are not presnt in BD? Do not you ever see the daily labors carry the 60 kg loaded jute sacks on their heads to load and unload? Please go out and see, and do not over dream. But, in a second thought, what do you imply by saying automation will cause slide down? No meaning at all.

Anyway, I have reasons to believe that BD is improving, but it is not that this has tilted the scale high up. BD remains a traditional underdeveloped society like a 4th world country, not even a 3rd world. This will continue for many decades. We know how far we developed in the last 71 years and the next 71 years will be no different. Probably, we will be promoted to the 3rd world by that time, whatever may be the UN definition.

I'm talking about automation in the developed world, which will make our BD workforce redundant. Once machines can produce garments, etc, we will have big problems. So enjoy these small good times as we have plenty of challenges coming up.

I'm glad at least you agree there has been improvement. I'll tell you, even in the UK people are not happy with the quality of life, so BD is doing well in the world economic climate.

You are comparing a 17th Century small London with the 21st Century Dhaka where 11 million people live. Things are more difficult now and houses are not any more built of straws to be destroyed by fire. But, it is not impossible to re-plan the urbanized areas by a methodical approach and by taking a very long years of planning and step-by-step approach. Japan has always been doing this, this is what I see.

It is the re-zoning of certain localities to allow construction of new streets/roads, expansion of old roads and provision of drainage system. Local people certainly will protest the moves. But, with the enactment of new land laws, the govt. can do so. If we have to graduate from our 16th century living quality, we have to do something concrete. Nothing actually is impossible in urban planning.

What do you expect in a city(Dhaka) whose population literally grown more than 10 times in the last 46 years in a poor country? Even if a developed country faced such a huge population growth they would have faced problem. The developed cities(with whom you compare and abuse Dhaka) stopped growing in population size 50-60 years ago.In the last 50 years, only quality is grown there. But in Dhaka, quantity overwhelmed whatever quality tried to put here.

And do not compare Bangladeshi road infrastructure with India or Pakistan. We started at let and from the scratch, whatever little resources we could managed, spent largely on people rather than physical infrastructure. We may not have shiny airport, metrorail or expressway but our people live longer, have better public health infrastructure, better rural development, have better sanitation, lower fertility rate and population control, lower hunger, better gender equality, better drinking water, disaster management. Literacy and electricity connection risen from a very low base compared to them to almost neck to neck. We have done better in these fields despite lower tax to GDP ratio compared to them.In development strategy, India and Pakistan is much more urban centric and showy(may be due to suppa pawa and rival to suppa pawa mentality). They have huge disparity among state to state and urban-rural areas. In our country, 50,000 rural peasants are not seizing the capital city, nor 58 percent of entire development budget is devoted to beautification of the capital city. For a poor country, you can not have it both way, either you will get better people first or better infrastructure first. We choose the former.

You should give this country more times rather than complaining here day and night with all negative projection. What you are doing here is not constructive criticism rather ridicule/abuse mixed with elitist mentality.
