What's new

Nearly half of US jobs lost to coronavirus could be gone permanently, poll finds

Businesses are allowed to open in my state.

@Gomig-21 has the People's Republic of Cambridge allowed your small business to resume yet?
good.

hopefully things go back to normal.

Small business normally have small profit margin. so even few months of losing revenue has real impact.

Considering almost everybody is/had been home for months only 50% losing money is a pretty good number. 50% of households successfully working at home without an income loss is impressive.

It's a horrible number. A lot of industries are going to be utterly destroyed. Income inequality is going to soar even more. All this because you guys voted for an incompetent asshole.

how the f do you "move your business online" as a truck driver or a food caterer

I don't think the trucking industry in the US was ever shutdown otherwise the shelves would be empty and people wouldn't be getting deliveries.

Plus this issue is worldwide so not sure why people here are making it sound like we are the only country that has to deal with it and we are the only one who has to think of solutions.

What countries on this planet that went into a wide lockdown had only 50% of their households not lose any money at all? I highly doubt many.

The companies impacted the most are in cities (including the one I work for) as workers/shoppers refuse to get into subway cars, trains, and buses. Plus cities had more stringent business closing rules due to density.

In the suburbs it's not as big of a problem for retail since most people drive their own cars and it's less crowded. Towns did temporarily close non-essential businesses. Re-opened restaurants can only have outdoor seating. Some towns even closed off sections of main streets to spread the tables out.

I just happened to check this thread and saw your tag when I never got it, just FYI.

Yes, thankfully a couple of months ago actually I believe it was May 15th or so where they lifted the moratorium on all construction work in this crazy-*** city lol. But I fear a new one coming for some reason. The virus seems to be making a nasty comeback thanks to all the idiots not taking it seriously. God help us if it happens again! A 2nd shutdown will not do as easily as the first one, not that it was easy anyway but it will be much more difficult financially.

The US isn't even through the worst part of its curves and you're seeing a 33% annualized drop in GDP

Same in Vancouver. Restaurants open for patio only and some downtown streets are closed for extra space for Restaurants.

But overall we did better job then south to contain the virus.

That's because you don't have an Orange Cheeto for president.
