I dunno whether there is a trend in some of the smaller to medium sized companies for there being a CIO ! For example my last audit client, though earning multi million $$$ revenues, had this area either decided upon by the CFO & Co. Secretary in unison with the Manager IT or they engaged E&Y in periodic non-assurance engagements to determine how information accessibility & availability could be improved ! I'm sure some of the bigger companies out there - the Multi-Nationals would have proper CIOs working with their extensive team of IT specialists & Managers managing the ERP systems & the sort but then again the competition for those opening would be that much tougher as well. But because the scope of our audit doesn't extend beyond the realm of the statutory financial audit I really dunno much about this. But I'd reckon companies like ICI or Warid would have IBA or LUMS graduates at the opening & mid-level positions with the top spots being manned by some of the more seasoned graduates of the same. Unfortunately in Pakistan 'degree' has a tendency of trumping 'experience' & ones alma mater counts for a lot ! Its going to be a hard nut to crack & I'm not sure if you'd be able to fetch a 200k plus job here on your first job.

PS: Butt Sb. PR counts very much in professional life, Some good employers think if your previous jobs if you haven't got any job where some of your friend or colleague referred that mean either you are not worth referring or you are not strong in social life and both of these are negative points for them

Yaaraaa zaraa thoriii advice tou deinaa - Any scope for an ACCA + CFA combo there in Karachi as a financial analyst in the Investment Finance industry ?

Armstrong dear......if u think word "scope" mean having a job then yes but thora competition hai.....and if you think "scope" cover at least your 5 professional years...then zada ki umeed na rahkoo......Reason...???

almost every sing investor and capitalist is on the run.....big shoots have already established their business in Dhaka as first priority or Malaysia as second choice.......business is shrinking day by day....first textile was targeted now retail & whole sale sector are also the target of gangster so cut the long story short few years back only capital flight was the issue but now all big and middle tier businessmen are also shifting abroad with their families on permanent basis.......on community basis Memons, Bhories, Punjabi speaking businessmen and Marwaries are the particular target......so want to come and try u will inshallah get the job here in Karachi.......but as an elder i will advise you to plan for three years at the initial stage of career......Karachi could only be the initial point for 1 year maximum.

Yup thats something what I was thinking as well. Here in Lahore there are next to no opportunities because baring one all the bank HOs are in Karachi as are most financial institutions, brokerage houses etc. I was thinking more in the line of staying in karachi for a year or two & then trying my luck in Singapore, Hong Kong area !
