NASA furious after India missile test risked COLLISION with International Space Station

.
India claims to have destroyed the satellite at 300 km alt while the ISS floats at 400 km, so some of the pieces could in fact reach and hit it. However, I don't know how did they calculate 400 pieces especially since he claims that only 60 pieces are large enough to be detected while rest are too small for the sensors so I really wonder how did he arrive at this number 400.

Combined Space Operations Center Vandenburg has confirmed it's tracking upwards of 250 objects from the 27 March intercept:

CSpOC is where the US bases its GBI interceptors for counter-ICBM exercises and where the USAF launches many of its rockets.

With ground and space sensors and tracking equipment, I'd say their count is reliable. The HAVE STARE radar in Vardø which tracks Russian space activities, and can track 10,000 man-made objects smaller than a football from 23,000 nautical miles away, used to be based in Vandenburg. It's still part of a northern hemisphere space surveillance line.

But he claimed 400 pieces.

everything india does these days seems to be backfiring on them...

. . . . . .
250+ to 400 hmmm, What say you O wise one?
I think they needed something for chest thumping of bhindus after Pakistan whooped their arse in a comprehensive way so to cheer up their ally they did it and this he can use in his elections.

could be.. don't remember.. last few days.. but there are 20k pieces of debris in that orbit .. Nasa is just being melodramatic...

NASA could be melodramatic but the debris could present a risk to ISS also.

‘Terrible’ antisatellite test by India endangers International Space Station, NASA says
NASA: India's 'terrible' anti-satellite missile test endangered ISS astronauts - The US space agency says hundreds of pieces of orbital debris created by New Delhi's test puts "human lives at stake".

Here is the line from the article
they must after after a new budget for something... i mean they haven't been supplying anything for our space program for 20 plus years.. so, they have no leverage.. what else would they want with this noise, except some more budget?

agree... But what about the 20k plus pieces od debris in that orbit already? they are a risk these guys are living with

page 8/17 - Out of the 20,000 catalogued objects registered today, some 1,700 are active satellites; the other ones are space debris, representing 92 per cent of the orbital population

well, the immediate goal seems to win the elections.
