I seriously think our approach towards Myanmar has been far from being correct. It's quite clear that the Burmese military junta has been using these 'little adventures' to score cheap political points in their domestic circuit and strengthen their grip on the parliament. While the dilemma of Bangladesh government is also understandable, we are striving for better regional connectivity and cannot afford hostile relations. There's no harm in avoiding hostile attitude but the current approach is surely not effective. The fact is that, the Military Junta is able to score such political points is because of the severe anti-Muslim sentiments in Myanmar. The only solution would be to have better people-to-people contact. There has been plethora of cultural and youth exchange programs with several countries but how many have been there with Myanmar? BRAC has its presence in several countries but no activities in this immediate neighbor. We can also extend the SAARC education quota to Myanmar and invite the Burmese students and scholars through scholarship programs.
This country I've learnt are educated by the former junta regime. It will take time to match their opinion, ethics standard like global level. I don't know, Myanmar govt always felt like someone would invade them. Invasion type thinking is outdated in this present world. Bangladeshi general peoples opinion about Myanmar, how we can make good business with them. How to know about Myanmar is a wide range curiosity from me to overall general people. We can send assistance by our large number of NGO's to improve their livelihood, education, ethics standard. I hope BRAC, GrameenBank can solely help in greater way. We can send our large number of agro experts to improve their agro production. We can send regular student exchange program, so that they know each other.
People to People to contact was always discouraged by the former Junta. SO they don't know anything about us either. They have suddenly started hating us while knowing nothing about us. They mistakenly assumes Non-Bengali speaking Rohingya as Bengali, because no one gave them the standard knowledge. Bangladesh never created any major problems for even India. Indian govt regularly acknowledges this. Bangladesh is always busy with its own problem and making solutions, it doesn't have time get into others problem.
Before hating someone, atleast we should know each other. Otherwise blind fight will bring no good.
Peace.
