I was surprised to discover just how many Muslim communities in other parts of South Asia claim descent (either factually or fictionally) from Punjabis and Sindhis. Here are some examples:
The Khokhar Khanzada and Khokhar Ranghar - they come from Uttar Pradesh and claim descent from Punjabi Khokhar/Ranghar soldiers who conquered the region during the reigns of Allaudin Khaliji and Zahiruddin Muhammad Babur respectively

The Bhatti Khanzada - they come from Uttar Pradesh and claim descent from Punjabi Bhattis who migrated to the region during the Islamic conquests

The Memon - they claim Sindhi ancestry and primarily come from Gujarat as well as Sri Lanka
