Sometimes I wonder whether Pakistanis and Indians are citizens of two sovereign nations or really just a bunch of kindergartners endlessly boasting about being one-up against the other !
Even a cursory look at most social and economic indicators out there whether in the UNDP's Human Development Report of 2014 or PEW's Social Hostility involving Religion Index of 2014 would've knocked some reality into both of us through the realization that we're both desperately ravaged by social and economic ills. Our behaviors are of the likeness of two failures slugging it out at each other and endlessly arguing that one is better than the other because whereas both failed the exam one failed at 40 while the other at 45. I'm sure thats much consolation to the Pakistanis and Indians who are on the receiving end of our failures.
But on a more serious note, we need to put our competitive streak to a more useful approach. Instead of gloating about the criticisms leveled against the other, we need to start competing at an economic level. That will give both nations the impetus to rise up from the ashes. If India for example buys one bullet train, Pakistan must buy two. If India builds one smart city , Pakistan must build two. Compete in education, sport (which we already do), economics and leave the politics and the military out. We could end up becoming the gateway to the world
