If I am not mistaken Qasar is not an option when you are not travelling and you are near your home place. And Qasar does not relax the timing of the prayer but the duration (Rikats) of the prayer.

And for people who say their prayers in planes and trains in aisles genius people , well I don't know why they do it but if the circumstances are such, I can offer my prayers while seated I don't see how that is not possible? And in trains the berths can be used. And after looking at pics of deck provided by Jungibaaz, I would say that couple could have shortened their trip and said their prayers in some appropriate place.

I mistakenly used 'qasar', I meant 'qaza' but the concept is similar. Instead of creating a drama in public places, it is far better to say a 'qaza' prayer once back home.

They were doing that in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now after they did that, filing a law suit was uncalled for. It is like one does not play football in the classroom because that is not supposed to be a playground. Plus I disagree with the "modern Christian" . Do the Nuns and priests think the same way as the so called modern Christians about sex? If not, then they are not close to religion not modern christians. The clergy sector, specifically of the Catholic sect, is non-applicable in your criticism. For one, they are VOLUNTARILY celibate because they believes their individual sex lives are insignificant and a distraction to what they believes to be greater works. But the religious leaders of other Christian sects are not bound by Catholicism and they do marry.

I don't understand why anyone would pray in public places. It's not intended for prayer and most of time like user @gambit stated it is seen as some mark of piety and excellence. Pray in private as prayer is intended to be between you and God and praying alone(not showing off) is actually rewarded more by God according to Islam. Nobody wants to see you pray out loud in public, it doesn't make your religion superior nor does it impress God or is something called for in Islam. So stop doing that.
