Music from two Bangla- West Bengal and Bangladesh (no abusive words)

.
WHY O WHY DID YOU PUT UP THIS JAZZED UP ABOMINATION?

We used to sing the damn' song in school, and to hear this is appalling.

Can anyone help me get the songs from Madhu Bose's Ali Baba? At least one of them, Ami khwab dekhechhi' was fata-fati.

You don't like this one ? I am surprised.. Why, I wonder...The song has been sung by many artists in many different pace and versions. I kind of like all of them, because it is such a beautiful song.

Ali Baba you say ? Probably it will be in my old man's collection. I will check with him.

It is jazzed up; the original was a solemn hymn, soaking in emotion.

If your old man is old enough, he might even have seen the movie. At Aleya, in Gariahat.

Didn't take long for @jamahir to try hijack this thread into another babe thread SHEESH ;)

i got confused by nforce's statement... he said i cannot discuss on this thread unless i contribute and before his post i was talking about bd ladies with maira la... so i thought nforce wanted me to post pics of ladies as well as post bangla music of my choice... i did both.

honest.

Nop, @jamahir's a South Indiandeshi, but he's taken a PDF crash course on BD women and culture and is a good candidate for naturalization. :D

a precise summary.

Not surprised. I suppose he's taking revenge.

revenge??

Couldn't find a better quality but it doesn't get better than this with Soumitra, Tanuja and Manna Dey. No idea how our taste declined to the level of Dev and Shrabanti in last four decades!! :(

Yesterday I was watching Saant Paanke Baandha never having seen it before, and I was surprised how nuanced the story was and how beautiful Suchitra and Soumitra acted. Specially Suchitra who went beyond her image of superstar and so subtly portrayed the pain, conflict, determination and helplessness of a young woman who is caught between her husband and her mother and wants to have life and career of her own! She totally shadowed Soumitra whom I consider one of the greatest actor ever walked on the earth. And mind you we are talking about 60s society and it's a commercial movie which did good business and not something which was limited to coffee house intellectuals.

And when I look at today's movies, even counting out the garbage by dev, jit et al, even so called good directors can't go beyond usual concoction of slangs, extra marital, smoking which according to them I guess portrays the life and struggle of a modern forward thinking woman. Not that I'm judging or opposed to women or men for that matter having fun, having my fair share of sins myself, but bengali movies these days, even the ones made for multiplexes are as subtle as sledgehammer!!
