I very much agree with you that BJP is likely to come to power in West Bengal. Illegal immigration is a big factor, and the BJP has very shrewdly started emphasizing the distinction between illegal migrants and Indian Muslims. It successfully did this in Assam which caused it to win seats in predominantly Assamese Muslim areas. The linguistic divide between Assamese speaking Muslims (like the family of Anwara Taimur who was India's first Muslim woman chief minister), and Bangladeshi Muslims is quite prominent. It's about time BJP comes to power in West Bengal, Didi has made it a shit hole of illegal immigration for vote bank which needs major rectification.
The BJP is trying a similar strategy in West Bengal where West Bengali Muslims are being courted. As pointed out earlier there is not much love lost between Bangladeshis and West Bengali Muslims. These are two completely different people with only a superficial resemblance. The West Bengali Muslims over 73 years have had very shrewd alliances with whoever has been in power from Congress, CPM, TMC. Prominent West Bengali Muslims have jumped ship to the BJP.
My prediction is that the BJP will capture power in West Bengal.
Bengali identity in India is linked to its Renaissance which in turn was based on an emphasis of Hindu identity.
Bangladeshis sing the Dwijendrageeti "Dhanno Dhanne Pushpe Bhora .." without the Sanskrit Vandana preceding it. In India the reformist Hinduism of Ishwar Chandra has dominated Bengali Hindu culture for 150 years.
West Bengal will assert its Hindu identity which it feels threatened by illegal migration, hopefully without a communal holocaust against West Bengali Muslims.
From Pakistan's point of view it is of little significance. Pakistan has no stake in what happens in West Bengal.
