Musharraf, The Only Hope for Pakistan

Both Taliban, India a threat to Pakistan: Musharraf

The Taliban pose a current threat to Pakistan whereas India has always posed a threat to the country, said former president Pervez Musharraf in an interview aired on Monday.

Musharraf, who was talking to Al Jazeera’s Riz Khan, said that there is no comparison between the Taliban and India as both pose a serious threat to the country.

In a response to a viewer’s question asking him whether he saw India as a bigger threat to Pakistan than the Taliban, he said: “I think there’s no comparison. You can’t compare. Both have posed a threat. Taliban are posing a threat now, India has posed a threat all along,” he said referring to the three wars the two countries have fought since gaining independence in 1947.

He said that the threat from India should not be taken lightly. “In 2002, they matched the entire Indian military force against our borders… they always pose a threat… I don’t think there is any comparison, this or that. Taliban pose the threat (at this moment) but that doesn’t mean we can take India lightly.”He said that Pakistan should always be prepared for an Indian offensive, saying “whenever there is an attack in India, hysteria (is) created by politicians in India to attack us, to punish Pakistan. If God forbid, another incident takes place by extremists and terrorists within India… (and it) thinks that they should attack Pakistan, where do the armed forces go? We have to have our guard up against the eastern border. At the moment it is this (Taliban) but if India plans to attack Pakistan, it’ll shift to India then.”

Musharraf also said that the Americans should not tell Pakistan what to do in dealing with militancy in its tribal areas.

“Don’t teach us, please. Don’t micromanage for us. Where I should put the army, where I should act, where I should not act – don’t teach me this. We know more in our area in the tribal agencies than you. And also don’t come across the border.”

He added: “When you get into micromanagement and try to dictate terms to Pakistan, there are differences of opinion but it’s unfortunate that people don’t understand this differentiating between the strategic plane and the tactical plane.”

Former Pakistani President Musharraf Speaks at Drew

Former Pakistani President Musharraf Speaks at Drew Musharraf in rescheduled engagement Thursday.

Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf will speak at Drew University on Feb. 9 as part of the 2011-12 Drew Forum series.

The appearance was rescheduled from Nov. 1, when it was canceled due to a power outage following the snowstorm in late October.

Musharraf, who will speak at 8 p.m. in Drew’s Simon Forum and Athletic Center, served as the 10th president of Pakistan from 1999-2008. His government, which remained in power until his resignation, was an ally of the United States in its War on Terror. Musharraf supported military actions against the Taliban by allowing the U.S. to use three strategically-located Pakistani airbases for Operation Enduring Freedom, the official name of the U.S. government’s war in Afghanistan. He also denounced terrorism and Islamic extremism from the lectern in several high-profile speeches delivered after the 9/11 attacks.

This year's Drew Forum marks the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on American soil and features speakers with a particular connection to or expertise in terrorism and national security. Former New Jersey Gov. Thomas Kean, who served as the chair of President George W. Bush’s 9/11 Commission, spoke on Sept. 13. Upcoming lectures will be delivered by foreign affairs analyst Robin Wright on March 21 and former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates on April 11.

Tickets to Musharraf’s Nov. 1 appearance will be honored at the Feb. 9 event. Individuals who wish to purchase tickets may do so through the box office, which can be reached at 973/408-3917. Tickets are $32 and a handling fee will be added to each order. Parking for the Feb. 9 event will be at Giralda Farms; patrons will be taken to and from the lecture venue by chartered bus.

Musharraf is the reason we have Taliban and Musharraf is the reason for the troubles in Baluchistan and Musharraf is the reason for MQM getting so powerful and now involved in target killings of innocent people of Karachi

People like you are the cause of our on going decline. Please learn to speak the truth, if you can. Before Musharraf was MQM a non existant entity. In his time we have seen examplary peace and development in Karachi. Before and After Musharraf Karachi is in constant flames. If It was any one rather then Musharraf in power prior to 9/11 they would have acted exactly as they are doing now. As real slaves of their's master (US) they would have assisted them in their crimes out right. He was the man who safeguarded Pakistan's interests, of which Americans had to say openly that ''Musharraf played double games with us''. It's a Shame, that we have many more like you in our country.

musahrraf has no savior and no future, all he can do or should do is enjoy retired asylum life outside.

So far Musharraf never applied Asylum, but when Gilani and his political partners threaten him to execute and head money than Asylum is his right.

He is no runaway, Gilani came to see him off at airport..

A Clean man never runs away, he stands his ground and fights for justice, does not run from pillar to post to wash his sins and grand his return to Pakistan.
