He runs illegal mining, fake currency, betting syndicates (like cricket), arms smuggling,drug trafficking, real estate,extortion, gang wars etc from there and the change in crime scenario of Karachi is a prime example of whats there for the future. He is running the main 2 underworld gangs of Karachi and is behind many of the turmoils reported in recent times.
The problem is General Musharraf doesnt like Dawood because of his association with Intelligence agencies and the involvement in drug trafficking.

The carriers mostly nigerians, posing as garment traders are given protection by the MeMon family, close aides of Dawood.
Another area of his interest is the real estate and manipulations. There were reports of where it was influenced the Asif Zardari to break all rules and help a contractor, Haji Masood, to build the 20-storey Samia Trade Towers.
