Its harming your countries reputation and image. Don't you think that?
The presence of the don in the major commercial city of Karachi is already ruining not just the image but of the social fabric of the society. He runs illegal mining, fake currency, betting syndicates (like cricket), arms smuggling, drug trafficking, real estate, extortion, gang wars etc from there and the change in crime scenario of Karachi is a prime example of whats there for the future. He is running the main 2 underworld gangs of Karachi and is behind many of the turmoils reported in recent times.
The problem is General Musharraf doesnt like Dawood because of his association with Intelligence agencies and the involvement in drug trafficking.
The global illicit drug industry has an annual turnover going over billions. Today, the criminal syndicates run trucking companies that first transport opium to the processing laboratories in the frontier regions of Pakistan like the Khyber Agency where chemists are employed to process raw opium and then to Karachi from where the finished product, heroin, is either shipped or air freighted to Europe and other destinations. (drugs reach Karachi from Balochistan and the North West Frontier Province via Khuzdar, Jacobabad or Dera Ghazi Khan. The smugglers take hashish through the Makran coast while heroin consignments in smaller quantities are carried in oil tankers and cargo trucks to the Quaid-e-Azam International airport at Karachi).
The carriers mostly nigerians, posing as garment traders are given protection by the MeMon family, close aides of Dawood.
Another area of his interest is the real estate and manipulations. There were reports of where it was influenced the Asif Zardari to break all rules and help a contractor, Haji Masood, to build the 20-storey Samia Trade Towers.
This guy is also involved in cricket match fixing and gold smuggling.
Another important area of interest is gambling, there has been violence related to it and reports were in Pakistani medias on how these gangs even shot policemen who question them.( shootings of night club related news are plenty)
The gang wars are consistent ever since he moved to Karachi from Dubai. He has no issues in running free as the state is indebted due to his commitments like helping Pakistani railways recover by giving loans or arranging money before.
Another area is terrorism. An Interpol report in 1996 said that Anees Trading Company, a shell company run by Dawood, was luring young, unemployed men from the continent with the promise of jobs and sending them to terrorist training camps.
So i think we should keep quiet on this issue and let them keep " the valuable asset" and as i have said early he s worth a 100 Brahmos and the damage he does is permanent.
