Wednesday, September 17, 2014 - Karachi—Mohajir Rabita Council (MRC) demanded President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to declare Karachi as Mohajir Province by the end of this current year or else a movement would be launched for the same.
MRC President Muhammad Yaqoob Bandhani and General Secretary Muhammad Arshad Siddiqui laid this demand at a press conference they had jointly addressed at Karachi Press Club Tuesday.
They said government’s failure in declaring Karachi as Mohajir Province would compel millions of Mohajirs to take to street and they would then shake the corridors of powers all around.
They said around 10 Mohajirs were being assassinated daily in the city and Mohajir intellect including doctors, scholars, academicians were silenced to death every day but Sindh Chief Minister and the authorities concerned were silent over that deliberate genocide of Mohajirs.
They said Mohajir would also be compelled to take measures in their hands for their safety in case the killers of Mohajirs were not arrested and Mohajirs pushed into the blind alley of insecurity. Then the entire responsibility of any untoward situation would fall on shoulders of the provincial government.
They said the creation of Mohajir Province was now inevitable and there would be no harm in declaring Karachi as separate Mohajir Province, which would also eliminate the lawlessness and bad governance. The demand for the creation of a separate Mohajir Province was not an act of treason.
They said the country was lagging far behind in terms of due development and prosperity and it was need of the hour that new provinces should be created in the country on the basis of growing population in the country.
They said the inhabitants of Karachi should be transferred powers after creation of the Mohajir province, which was in no way a demand for charity but was the constitutional demand.
Any act of suppressing the Mohajirs from attaining their demand would mean that Mohajirs should apply all their strength to actualise their demands by force and for that the Mohajir could only wait for a limited time, end of this current year after which a full movement would be launched till the creation of the Mohajir Province.
