Moscow Warms Up To Islamabad

Leverage doesn't always mean dirty work. You guys need to get out of this cold war petty mentality. The era of being either in this bloc or that bloc is over.

Exactly, like tomorrow Russia and Pakistan have good relationship for some time and then Russia ask for route to India, Pakistan might find hard to refuse. Actually this is going in such a direction that we soon be in situation that India and Pakistan will have common friends and then that will improve relationship between India and Pakistan.

In 2011, Russia changed its policy and Putin publicly endorsed Pakistan bid to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and said that Pakistan was a very important partner in South Asia and the Muslim world for Russia. Putin offered Russia's assistance in expansion of Pakistan Steel Mills and provision of technical support for the Guddu and Muzaffargarh power plants and Russia was interested in developing the Thar Coal Project[34] In 2011, Russia strongly condemned the NATO strike in Pakistan and the Russian foreign minister stated it is unacceptable to violate the sovereignty of a state, even when planning and carrying out counter-insurgent operations.[35]

In 2012, Russian president Vladimir Putin announced to pay a state visit to Pakistan soon after his re-election.Russia is currently financing the megaenergy project, CASA-1000, transmitting the power generation from Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan; the Russia has provided 500Mn US dollars for the CASA-1000 for the power transmission project.[38] In 2011, both countries initiated the work on the framework n the proposed Free Trade Agreement and currency swap arrangement to boost bilateral trade and further strengthen their economic ties.[38]

In 2012, Russia and Pakistan has covertly developed geopolitical and strategic relations behind the scenes of world politics for the last two years, as Stephen Blank of Strategic Studies Institute maintained.[38] As the NATO-led ISAF and the US Forces, Afghanistan Command, is planning to depart Afghanistan in 2014, the Russian Federation came to a conclusion that Pakistan is a crucial player in Afghanistan and that, as NATO withdraws, it becomes all the more urgent for Moscow to seek some sort of modus vivendi with Islamabad.[38]

It is always nice to have a little recap. Full SCO membership will come in handy and will help address some of the issues involving security and economical developments within the region. Both Russia and China recognizes the importance of having Pakistan by their side and vice versa, hence the change of attitude from both Pakistan and Russia. Needless to say about China and Pakistan's relations. We have been together and have enjoyed great diplomatic and military relations for over 60 years now.

Russian have not forgotten Afghanistan Nor Chechnen War - I / II - Where Pakistan Contributed

Apart from Iran-Pakistan Pipeline nothing appears to be Lucrative to Russia.

Mr Puntin on one more Chess Board!!

Afghanistan debacle was Soviet era folly and Russia is no Soviet Union.

In todays politics where alliances and strategies change on a weekly basis, two decade old stuff is ancient history.

Both Pakistan and Russia are building relationship to solve today's problems.

good to see pakistan becoming normal doing business with everyone.............. if pakistan can raise its image by fighting terrorism countries can offer very attractive goodies and business deals.........

If that theory worked then why can't India and Pakistan get over something that happened in 1947? Almost 7 decades ago huh!

And Btw its only Pakistani media who are giving so much coverage Pak~Rus relation.....

India should respect Russia's relationship with Pakistan the way Russia respects yours and the Americans. It's to do with mutual national interests and it is a venture the two must partake.

Even Pakistan give what Indian claims as Indian Kashmir to India it will still try to break up Pakistan in one way or another.

Thats what the Chinese would like Pakistan to think right? Keep India and Pakistan at each others throat all the time:rolleyes: India is not interested in Pakistani part of Kashmir, and is happy to convert the LOC into international border.

We welcome our old friend Russia's influence in Pakistan, that would definitely help India in many ways as mentioned by Roybot.

Between what is on platter/ or to be precise which part of Pakistan will be offered to Russia to develop relationship (just like it has offered bases and ports to americans, arabs and Chinas to strengthen relationship with each of them in past years)
