More Pics of DRDO MC Rifle

That's the wrong way of holding the rifle! There's a fooking pistol grip made for the left hand for stability, but this clown who seems to be checking it out is holding the rifle from below!! Jeeez! :sarcastic:

Not necesariy, the supporting the foreend with your non-shooting arm provides higer stability, foregrips are primraly used for faster motion for target aacquisations. Most precision rifles dont employ foregrips either

Probably a dumb question, but can anyone explain why exactly is a multi-calibre weapon needed in the first place? Does the range and penetration increase by using certain heavier calibres on the same rifle?

5.56 nato -
pros: Wide distribution, good accuracy and efficacy against non-armored adversaries at 0-500 yards,
cons poor teminal ballistics, and higher bullet sway
7.62 x 39 -
pros: wide distribution, excellent terminal ballistics at 0-250 yards and contrary to popular belief low recoil, same bullet as the 7.62 x 51Nato and 7.62 x 54R for the cartridge.
cons: high bullet drop beyond 300 yards, tumbling effect beyond 450 yards (similar to 7.62 x 51 nato beyond 800 yards), Corrosive berdan primer
6.8 SPC and 6.5 grendel-
Pros: Flat shooting round , good accuracy and terminal ballistics upto 450 yards,
Cons: poor distribution, zero legacy platforms, higher logistic and mfg costs.
7.62 x 51 nato: Pros: Excellent accuracy and terminal ballistics upto 650 yards, wide distribution, non-corosive boxer primer
Cons: High recoil, unsuitable for automatic fire, Weight
7.62 x 54R:
Pros: Excellent accuracy and terminal ballistics upto 700 yards, wide distribution,
Cons: High recoil, unsuitable for automatic fire, Weight, corosive boxer primer
There is no do it all cartridge, thus you need right cartridge for the right job, thus multi-caliber consolidates your multiple needs in a single platform. To me it makes sense as long it is executed correctly

Mate, just because you would prefer it doesn't mean much. The bull-pup design was run in parallel to this traditional design and was found wanting. There's no need to go for the extremely expensive TAR-21 for the entire IA when this MICWS can do the job for the grunts not to mention has the multi-cal capability the IA wants and the TAR-21 is lacking. There are very few militaries in the world that actually have bull pups as their standard-issue AR, there must be a reason for this. I don't know enough about small arms to possibly comment, maybe @sandy_3126 can help me out here.

There are inherent advantages of Bull pups: shorter package, lesser muzzle climb for full length barrel's compared to conventionsl patterned rifles.

Few months back i did get a chance to shoot a semi auto Tar21 semi auto in Indiana, and I loved it. Saying that it is an expensive system to operate, and Indian Army by it's sheer volume would always prefer to field economic platform, as done with the Insas. Back then the firm scope was stamped reciever type rifle with tolerences tighter than AK, based 5.56 platform with axial reciprocating mass for the breach action. and that is exactly what Insas was made to be.

I had posted long long ago my vision of a bullpup - multicaliber system with supporting 5.56, 6.5 spc and 7.62x39 along with a 9mm conversion kit. Although not bullpup, this system is pretty close as long as they can execute it properly, this is a welcome move from DRDO which has struggled throughout with small arms.

As far as bullpup discussion is concerned, as an avid shooter, I love them, I think they have a strong contention for spec ops teams in India. The French, Israeli and australian militaries have adapted the bullpups, and they have a very strong rifleman culture which speaks volumes about the pattern. US small arms story is dictated by lots of political stonewalling which is another story.

After having close look
It seems more or like INSAS but with different butt and hand grip. They just made it multi caliber.

Why butt and Barrel are black while other parts are dark grey or something? and also barrel finishing is not that good. I expected more
@Abingdonboy My excitement is gone after having close look :suicide2::suicide2:

I would respectfully disagree. Insas is a stamped reciever this is a machined reciever, it will retain adjustable gas port adding to reliability. It will hopefully feature ambi dextrous safety and mag release along with double hook triger pin. Additionally for the picture it seems like the barrel is for 5.56 is common with insas

This is first time M Not Agree with you mate Tevor is good rifile But its Not Much Combat Dependable Like Ak,Brother Ak 47 is Cult Rifle Russia Never Came out of it So they created Ak-12 Successor Cheap Maintenance with Longer Range And Deadly Fire Its Deadly Essence of Mechanical Creation
but AK is not accurate even in 200 m (common fighting range in north western sector& J&k or jungels of eastern india)range

while a tevor with 18" barrel is much shorter lighter compact and accuate than a M16

while barrel and calliber change could easily be done a tevor

while it has a very easy to change the ejector port on either side for left hand or right hand user

its very reliable if we liesence produce it like in numbers ranging from 1 million the its cost will almost come down by 60%

.
I dont think that the Tavor is multi cal capable ?
well the latest variant in use of IDF are even saw a youtube link let me find that one owt but why do we nead multi cal just configure the indian standard tevors to have a 18" barrel & 7.62 mm caliber and add a shoulder buffer/damper at the end of its butstalk it will be shorter , compact , very low maintainence and relaible yet very very leathel (uptil 450m) and deu to shoulder dmper will have very less recoil and since its not front heavy like legacy AK, M16 or Insas it will be much easier to control and if i just add just if israelies could add barrel with grip like Styre AUG on it indian standard Tevor will be a masterpiece in assult rifles and it will be much much cheaper to produce & low maintainence (composite polymer body)

Yup mate accuracy was the problem in ak but it was solved in future variants most advance variant ak-12 which dont have such problems plus its multi calibre IA have mastered of producing ak 47 its economicaly every reasanable for mass production and for developing the tech which we already have rather than going for new one

what i fail to understand is why cant DODOs/DRDO can simpeli design a bull pup based on AK series with 7.62 mm cartige and all polymer body and add a simple shoulder damper at the end of butt stalk & a grip at front

that way
1. it will be cheaper to build

2. no additional logistics for different calliber

3.will be mych eisier to control recoil deu to damper at the end & lesser fatigue to sur deu to not bieng front heavy and a grip at front will be more easier to have long range shots

4. very compact and easy to clean deu to polymer body (while barrel, bolt and trriger machenisn and firing pin and spring machenism could be of high strenth steel)

5. 7.62 is good for more stopping power and long range shots 450m and beyond

6. will be eisier to control in semi and full auto mode deu to rear heavy bull pup design

Yeah i corrected myself after some research. Could explain a bit more about stamped and machined receiver?
