More Pics of DRDO MC Rifle

Our army is already supporting 2 types of ammo -- 7.62 and 5.56 mm with 2 different rifles -- AK-47 and INSAS respectively. Switching to 1 rifle is always a better economic option to any army.

How exactly? The number of Rifles produced or the types of ammo produced will not change anyways, if the MWICS is adopted by the Army.

If your coach ask you to form a 1 man cricket team. Who would you choose between Dhawan, Jadeja and Zaheer ??
Therein lies the catch. Army ops, like Cricket, are team exercises, aren't they? Everyone in the Army does not receive the same training and has the same expertise either.

Any idea on what the promoters of the MWICS have to say about it's advantages on a battlefield?

How will you suggest a sniper to kill a enemy or a terrorist within a few yards..?? and how will you command a close battle group to kill a terrorist at 500 yards..??
the answer is a multi-calibre gun..
a close battle group always specializes in close range battle but may receive a basic training on medium range battles if it supports its gun...same for sniper..!!
Don't over-complicate it. What the IA wants, and what ARDE has delivered is a multi-cal that overcomes certain logistical issues. Today the IA has 2 assault rifles- the INSAS is it's standard assault/battle rifle but for troops in CI ops it uses the 7.62mm AK series. The reason for the AK in CI is well known- in close quarters the 7.62mm delivers a "punch" (kinetic energy) down-range that is devastating, 5.56mm has been known to maim/wound but not kill. In a "close" fight you want to put down an enemy and put him down for good. The 5.56mm however delivers better range and accuracy so is the IA's preferred "battle round"- i.e. what it would go to war with.

The idea behind its multi-cal requirement is to have 1 common rifle that fields both the 7.62mm and 5.56mm calibres so when a unit is in CI ops they will field the 7.62mm, when they return to their bases and reorient to conventional ops their rifles will revert to 5.56mm. No need for extra training or a separate logistics chain- one rifle replaces 2.

After having close look
It seems more or like INSAS but with different butt and hand grip. They just made it multi caliber.

Why butt and Barrel are black while other parts are dark grey or something? and also barrel finishing is not that good. I expected more
@Abingdonboy My excitement is gone after having close look :suicide2::suicide2:

Chola, it's obviously going to be an evolved INSAS.

But yes, the muzzle brake, barrel is the same as in INSAS. It kind of irks me too, but this thing is only a prototype.

Buddy its MCIWS - Multi Caliber Individual Weapon System NOT MWICS..!!
The different no of production lines for AK-47 and INSAS will reduce to one. Training will be on 1 rifle but not 2 different rifles.

. . . . .
Cool looking gun, the foregrip is way forward. Not everyone has long arms. Need to improve the upper/reciever markings or quality or finish. Otherwise nice.

it is better to liesence produce Tevor assult rifels in huge numbers and make it standard rifle for all indian forces
This is first time M Not Agree with you mate Tevor is good rifile But its Not Much Combat Dependable Like Ak,Brother Ak 47 is Cult Rifle Russia Never Came out of it So they created Ak-12 Successor Cheap Maintenance with Longer Range And Deadly Fire Its Deadly Essence of Mechanical Creation

They can take the lower hand guard off. Should be all picatinny rail.

Reading a lot about rifles here, I wud lyk to share force's actual idea and desires about rifles.
By my own field experience in CI ops, I would like put lights on few issues with which we are facing daily-
1- X-95 aka tavor is the worst rifle considered by paramilitary personels,
Reason is accuracy problem since barrel is too close to the body there is too much bubbling. Also mechanism being closer to ear makes too much sound which inturn creates concentration problem and also headache for long hours of firing.

Also being it of fibre body it is prone to break or damage which leads to COI in armed forces therefore nobody wants to carry it.

2- Multi- caliber is just not so useful concept in field. U don't change weapon's barel in field. It is done by trained armourer in Central Weapon Store.

3- Also Insas cost Rs 8000, Bulgarian AK Rs 6000, and Tavor Rs- 46000

4- Biggest nightmare for a soilder in field is jamming of rifle. This problem is too much with Insas and to much extent with Tavor ( X-95). Here rules AK with no jamming problem at all ever. Thats is why out of worlds 10 million Assault rifles 8 million are AK series (source- wiki)

5- we all want AK's in huge number. They are cheap easy to maintain best weapon on field.

Now its clear ARDE people made some noticeable changes in recoiling and charging parts also incorporated some galil features. They retained INSAS barrel maybe due to some positive aspects.

Its nothing like AK 47 or M4...:taz: again happy
