They do that all the time.

You'll get used to it.

poor and happiness is two different things. i have seen more happy people in india than in us.
May be a person in india gets 2rs/hr and person in usa gets 200/hr rupees. but to buy bread in inida you need only 1 rs while in usa u will need 200rs
THe only difference between these economies is the consistent opportunity to earn that 2rs. I think india is doing quite good in improving that.

Ok, agreed that they are outsiders, but you deliberately let them in by AGREEING to be a party to that outside game being played in the 80's & 90's isnt it?

Its OT here though, so we should leave it here.

Coming back to the topic, there is no dearth of money in India, there is unequal distribution. Why? coz the "distribution channels" are filled with corruption.
Can we change it? Yes

Are we willing to change it? Well, as the dialogue goes "ghar ki safai mein haath gande kaun kare"....

There is no denying to the FACT that poverty is widespread in India, and there is no denying in the FACT that things are changing at their own pace. There will always be an arguement that "things could have been better IF..."

Thanks again, for not bashing and talking politely and logically..

Yes India is a very fast growing economy but i am sorry to say that the economic growth is not giving any reasonable benefit to the poor, which is dangerous for the country itself, as they are well aware of the figures and numbers regularly printed in media.. this will result in demoralization of majority of population..

anyways, this is something which Indian Think Tanks should think about..

It is same as all the money coming in Pakistan for the last 3 years is going 'directly' in deep and private pockets of government..

I have enough of Indians boosting and foolish and insane false sense of superiority, their silly thinking that they have become “world richest country”.

They are one of the poorest countries in the world, despite their claims. The accumulation of wealth in few hands and thus skewed per capita income figures are giving them false sense of superiority. The fact is their per capita still is not much different from Pakistan. Pakistanis even though suffering for last 3 years due to corrupt PPP, but still live better life than common Indians.

We Pakistanis always blame our corrupt leaders and this fake war on terror, Afghan upheaval of last 30 years, which has dragged us back in Economic term.

The real face of India is exposed in this 2010 article in Guardian. More Indians are poor than sub-Saharan Africa. The poverty level in the whole state of MP was same as DR Congo.

The report says, poverty in parts of India is equal of not worst than that in Africa.

I say to Indians stop boosting, your country is dirt poor.

Maybe if Indians stopped trolling all the time, people would stop posting this stuff.

Cause and effect.

Is it hard to understand for pakistanis that we have 1.2 billion population ...so 30% is a huge figure .....by your logic China is poorer than Afganistan because Afganistan has less no of poor people :woot:
also we have per capita GDP/income etc higher than urs so Shut up ....
@CD: No one ever claimed 'India is Richest Blah Blah'
We do have growth rate near to 9
We 4th in most billionaires list
11th in Millionaries list
we have doubled our nominal GDP in span of 6-7 years
And if u think this is trollong then no one can help u

I think you should read what 'footmarks' wrote.. No point in denying a fact, like i will not deny the problems in our country, maybe it is time for us to move on with better approach..

@ Indians leave it. Just give India another 10 or so years they will shut their mouth themselves. I find it funny that somehow people here think a country can grow with only certain section of the society. Although I don't who they are from their allegations. If anyone of them read economics, they would know that growth starts that way and will trickle down eventually. Anyways you gotta let the haters live too right?

PS: Most of the young generation who is even remotely educated is finding employment and thats a good trend.

You guys have seriously foot in mouth disease..your own poverty levels is increasing at exponential rates ..in last few yrs... absolute poverty levels in Pakistan has increased by over 20% of population ..is touching 40 % aka 70 Million of you 180 Million live below povert line and you come out with these kind of threads to trash India.

Thanks. Though I am a lot more aggressive other times. :D

Its just that, when there is something bad, and everyone around the world points that out, you cant turn a blind eye to it. There has to be some truth in it. Its poverty for India, terrorism for Pakistan.

Yes India is a very fast growing economy but i am sorry to say that the economic growth is not giving any reasonable benefit to the poor, which is dangerous for the country itself, as they are well aware of the figures and numbers regularly printed in media.. this will result in demoralization of majority of population..

I will again differ with you here. Economic benefits ARE reaching to the lower strata. The rate of growth in prosperity in different strata is different. Things are changing at their own pace, slow, but still changing for good. And slow, but still a lot faster than most of the countries in the world.

Is that so easy to not look at the positive side of things?? :what:

It is same as all the money coming in Pakistan for the last 3 years is going 'directly' in deep and private pockets of government..

Problems are everywhere....what matters is - which way the country is heading? deeper into trouble or slogging out hard to reach the shores.

If the ship is strong, it will keep you afloat, even if the captain is not willing to take it to the shore..

our children may be dying of hunger but they arent dying of bombs, sitting in UK its convinient for fanboys like you to comment on poverty, while you have done nothing towards it, think about pakistan, we are still ahead of you in virtually everything, you are only wasting your time on this anti indian stuff, in the meantime think about the problems pakistan faces and solve them.

True, they are dying of bombs. Now tell us who is responsible? Who are the real terrorists?

Who are killing Pakistanis, who are training them, providing them funding, arms? Not Pakistanis but their enemies, who are responsible for the martyrdom of thousands of Pakistanis.

Down with the terrorists CIA/RAW/Mosad and their agents, armed, financed and trained by them.

6-7m people joining the pool of poor each year

ISLAMABAD: With the national economy at its lowest ever point, Pakistan is adding 6-7 million people a year to its pool of poverty which currently stands at about 60 million, contributing to social and political instability in urban areas.

This has been stated in a report by a government-sponsored task force on private sector development jointly headed by senior economist Shahid Javed Burki and leading industrialist and former federal minister Abdul Razak Dawood.

The task force, appointed by President Asif Ali Zardari, was working with the planning commission. It has submitted its report to the government.

“In a history of exceptional turbulence that has lasted since Pakistan gained independence more than six decades ago, the current economic situation is at the lowest point ever reached,” the report said, adding the country today was the poorest performing economy in South Asia and its growth in gross national income (GNI) stood at one-third that of India and half that of Bangladesh.

“Unless the trend is reversed the pool of poverty will be increasing by 6-7 million people a year, from the current estimated size of 60 million, with most of the increase taking place in urban areas contributing to social and political instability,” Mr Burki says in the report.

Another member of the task force, Dr Pervez Hassan, has concluded that Pakistan has over time steadily lost ground in manufactured exports – the engine of growth in international trade – to exporters of all other major developing country.

“Its share in this group was 1.4 per cent in 1980 but had fallen to 0.4 per cent by 2008. Even excluding China, Pakistan`s share had dropped more than 50 per cent to 0.7 per cent over 1980-2008.”

Mr Hassan has identified three factors for this relative decline: First, Pakistan remains heavily dependent on relatively slow growing textile exports and has also made less headway in faster expanding garment exports. Second, since 2005 Pakistan has lost market share in both textiles and clothing not only to China but also to emerging important exporters like India, Turkey and Vietnam. Third, its record in fast expanding other manufactured exports, whether sports goods, surgical equipment, auto parts and jewelry, has been dismal and its presence in international market is negligible.

He has argued that the government should reverse this declining trend by setting ambitious but realistic goals with an export-driven development strategy that should allow better participation and competitiveness in world markets.

Among several recommendations, Dr Hassan has advocated a 10 per cent nominal devaluation of currency during the current year “just to keep the exchange rate from further appreciation”. Real exchange rate appreciated 8.3 per cent in fiscal year 2010 as against real depreciation of 0.3 per cent in fiscal 2009.

He has also recommended joint public and private sector efforts to promote foreign investments in textiles, clothing and other promising sectors from Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Taiwan which are losing ground in labour intensive industries due to high and rising wage.

“The focus of these efforts should be to upgrade skills and technology and to make use of established export channels.”The task force report appreciates that 90 per cent of Pakistan`s economy is not controlled by the private sector but the culture of government subsidies has created a large budgetary burden. Also the private sector is dominated by very small enterprises because of existing regulatory system.

The report calls for rationalisation and expansion of the fiscal base to increase tax-to-GDP ratio from the current 9 per cent to 17 per cent over a period of five years. It has also recommended an institutional and analytical framework to guide the process of fiscal decentralisation.

5000 Rs per month!! boy...IF a person earning Rs 5000 a month is living on pavements, he must be a real drunkard. Otherwise, a lot of well earning people live in a PG with all amenities, food, electricity backup, on a twin sharing basis within Rs 5000 pm. Even a family of 5 can decently live on that amount in cities like Delhi & Mumbai.

i saw that on an indian TV channel.it showed INDIAN human rights protestors protesting against this. the man had a family of 5 including himself. during the winters he keeps his family with himself and they live in a very cramped room.during the summers his family goes to the village and he sleeps on the pavement.he only saves a mere 500 per month.and that is only one story.

But as i said, it is YOUR Iproblem, and i should be having no business in it.

Get a reality check, the poverty level is there in Pakistan, but nothing compare to India, it is in line of $2 day poverty line, not Rs20 Indian poverty which renders 77% of them on Indian defined poverty line, while UN poverty line $2 per day would cover over 90% Indian population.

Maybe you should stick to the bold part. Think about it. The lesser time you spend in PDF & over computer, lesser electricity you consume. Lesser fuel will be burnt to produce electricity, more household will get electricity for longer hours & the environment too will be less polluted. The time you thus save can be utilized to do some constructive work, which will contribute to the betterment of your country's economy. There is a lot more that you can do.

So, Make that change !! (this is the punch line of the company I work with, incidently it has an office in Pakistan too).
