PAKISTAN — At least 12 people aboard a Pakistani Army helicopter were killed Thursday in northwestern Pakistan, a military spokesman said. They included a team of army doctors, paramedics, two pilots and crew. Officials said they were trying to determine the cause of the crash and suspected weather conditions to be responsible. The helicopter, carrying medical supplies, took off from Rawalpindi and was headed toward Gilgit, which has been affected recently by floods.

It is the second military helicopter crash in the area in the last three months. Seven people including two foreign ambassadors were killed in May when another army MI-17 crashed at a nearby hillside holiday resort.

The latest victims were part of an army medical team flying from Chaklala airport, Rawalpindi with medicines and other relief supplies for those affected by monsoon floods in Gilgit.

Aaj kal har koi khud hi expert bana hua hai in Flight Safety and Aviation Maintenance....good to know! :D
The PDF crack team of experts in every field bar none... Anyway I think every VVIP helicopter should be put into flood relief. No more travel for our leaders will not harm anyone.

mother nature always wins when it lashes out at our feeble technology. Mi17 is a robust and established platform. people without knowledge of the helicopter and anally stringent procedures of maintaining military copters are making comments as if they know everything.

Not just inclement weather Sir, the terrain is very difficult and has lots of unpredictably turbulent air currents in the steep valleys and rock outcroppings even when the weather seems fine.

This heli wasn't on flood relief duty.

Initial reports suggest it was a CFIT due to poor visibility.
