MiG 21s to be phased out from 2014

by the way , the article is crap

What AK Antony has said is that Mig 21 Bisons will begin retiring in 2014

Normal Mig 21s had started retiring in yr 2007
since yr 2007 , some 93 Mig21 have officially retired , with last sqd , which retired in Nov 2011 , was the No. 17 sqd operating some 20 Mig 21 Bis

currently we have some 32 Mig 21 Bis , which will be phased out this yr wilth the Induction of 9th and 10th Su30MKI sqd
( currently we have 8.5 MKI sqds and 1.5 MKI sqds will be inducted this yr , taking the total Tally to 10 sqds and 187 fighters)...

also Bisons which will retire between 2014-17 , will be replaced by Tejas and Rafale

Currently IAF has some 120 Mig21 Bisons & 32 Mig 21Bis , they form 8 Sqds or 22% of IAF total fleet strength

Mig 21 Bi's have retired ??? Are you sure ?? Any sources ? I thought it was the earlier versions of Mig 21 that was being phased out.

. . . . .
So Mig 21s are being replaced by Su30s.....but what will be replaced by Rafale when they start coming in 2015?

. .
The question is, IS LCA READY FOR REPLACEMENT OR WILL YOU GET ENOUGH RAFALE BY 2014 TO REPLACE THEM.
this is a big question mark ?

The MiG-21 BISON series is upgraded to work for quite sometime more. Tejas will have around 40 jets by 2014 (as per some releases). That certainly is not sufficient. The final Tejas that would come out would be around 2020 or something with significant upgrades as required.

The Bisons will complete their total lifecycle only in 2017. It is only the older versions that are being phased out faster.

.
but recently i read the news that Indians are going for GE 414 engines for their LCA since their own "indigineous" engine is a failure!

http://www.****************/ge-f414-engines-selected-to-power-india-lca-program-29189/

You can't call it failure JF17 have Russian engine even then u call it a success or pak-china joint venture and forget Russia which supplies most important part.

The GE 414 engines is a prove that LCA is a success and we will induct it in good numbers.

First with american engine then our Made in India engines.

BTW, we will get ToT to build even GE 414 engines in India.

Lol.. what a joke.. ur insulting urselves n ur fellow indians... true tejas has higher standard hence its still on the drawing board and kaveri designed for lca is still a ... stain on HALs credibility (or whoever is incharge of its development)...just like tejas........... As for RD-93 dnt worry we already tweaked it out n will use WS-13 for it... till than fancy an "UNDER DEVELOPMENT" jet like the past 4 decades.

Its ok if we dnt want underdevepment plane ..

But what about your Jf17 .. even after its development county like Zimbabwe reject this

.
But indians feels very proud by saying that kaveri is indigenious! so taking french assistance is indigineous? :)

first go and make a car engine in your country on your own... you are in no position to comment on kaveri

Mig -21 is not only replacement from 2015 we have to start retiring Mig-27 too. So if you look at the total no. of both is easily cross 250.
MRCA = 126
Tajes = 40mk1 + 99Mk2
