MiG 21s to be phased out from 2014

But indians feels very proud by saying that kaveri is indigenious! so taking french assistance is indigineous? :)

ok we are now just half proud...atleast we made an underpowered engine.... while many countries in world struggle to make even engine for this

Kaveri is already a very good engine for JF-17.

Off course, Tejas has much higher standards for performance etc; hence we need GE414.

Is it chinese ego which is preventing it from seeking Kaveri as a replacement to RD-33?

Lol.. what a joke.. ur insulting urselves n ur fellow indians... true tejas has higher standard hence its still on the drawing board and kaveri designed for lca is still a ... stain on HALs credibility (or whoever is incharge of its development)...just like tejas........... As for RD-93 dnt worry we already tweaked it out n will use WS-13 for it... till than fancy an "UNDER DEVELOPMENT" jet like the past 4 decades.

i dont want to go offtopic,

compare the specs of tejas with j-17 but you have plus point that jf-17 is inducted but tejas is not.
its upto airforce to decide what role they want and what they need in that plane

You compare specs of JETS tht are in service... not imaginery planes in development since decades do you? by the time(if) lca enters service we would be flying JFT Block-2 or 3...With AESA,WS-13 etc... We will compare it when u have it... just like AK vs arjun or T-90(Both beat by AK on specs).

hahhahahaaaaa

lca blk 2 will have an aesa too and it will be inducted in time frame of 2016 onwards.
and field your AK in front of arjun anytime....

btw, india dont depend on lca badly..its just to produce and to learn the the tech used in aircraft production.

no need to reply as its going offtopic.

HAHAHA... lca blk2...lol where the bloody hell is blk-1 to start with? as for arjun... if it is so great why order just around 200? and hundreds of T-90s? as for learning the tech used in aircraft production... cant understand the logic behind tht... best of luck..

Are you talking abt india ?

a) How Many JF-17 PAF has?
b) and what is your engine Thrust?

India has 6 LCA flying ......
Indian Kavari engine achieved:- during testing
Performance
Military thrust (throttled): 11,687 lbf (52.0 kN)
Full afterburner: 18,210 lbf (81.0 kN)
Thrust-to-weight ratio: 7.8:1 (76.0 N/kg)

JF-17 (Klimov RD-33)
Maximum thrust: 50.0 kN (11,230 lbf) Dry,
81.3 kN (18,285 lbf) Afterburning.
Thrust-to-weight ratio: 4.82:1 (dry), 7.9:1 (afterburning)

so you see your PAF specification is what India Kaveri engine achieved, now we are trying to improve further it with french assistance.

So please don't make your joke till you don't understand things fully........ 6 Kaveri engine of above specifications already produced and tested in russia ......

Sell them off to Africans...Good money and good influence but ugly women.

by the way , the article is crap

What AK Antony has said is that Mig 21 Bisons will begin retiring in 2014

Normal Mig 21s had started retiring in yr 2007
since yr 2007 , some 93 Mig21 have officially retired , with last sqd , which retired in Nov 2011 , was the No. 17 sqd operating some 20 Mig 21 Bis

currently we have some 32 Mig 21 Bis , which will be phased out this yr wilth the Induction of 9th and 10th Su30MKI sqd
( currently we have 8.5 MKI sqds and 1.5 MKI sqds will be inducted this yr , taking the total Tally to 10 sqds and 187 fighters)...

also Bisons which will retire between 2014-17 , will be replaced by Tejas and Rafale

Currently IAF has some 120 Mig21 Bisons & 32 Mig 21Bis , they form 8 Sqds or 22% of IAF total fleet strength

. .
Why are people sad that the MiG-21 is being phased out? What? You guys gonna use them forever?

If you like them so much, just buy one and decorate it in your room. They should have replaced them a long time ago.
