Meerut tense after clashes over forced conversion of a lady teacher

One of my friends is a Dalit Christian convert. I visited his home, which has got a pooja room having all Hindu gods and goddesses. The family carries out all Hindu daily rituals in the pooja room. They even worship Jesus like a Hindu god.

That must be a really odd Christian. It does not generally work that way. Long time ago, a friend of mine who converted made sure her parents never prayed to Hindu gods again.

Otherwise, it is usually the Hindu homes which also have a statue of Jesus or Mary with their Hindu gods and goddesses.

Yep 15 girls (potentially 40) Hindu girls vacationing at the Madrassa. The rural SP is a Muslim. I sense that the Police is trying to suppress the whole thing.
The entire state machinery is kinda screwed tbh. Notice the names of the people in power in the articles, they are either a yadav or a muslim, they obviously have to save their skins, so they will downplay it as much as possible. Look at how long this took to reach even small media outlets.

And even now see how TOI and other mainstream media are reporting it. No mention of alleged gang rape and forced conversion, TOi headline says forced marriage. This is surprising as you know how media loves rape stories of late...why the sudden change? Report of forced marriage fuels tension in Meerut - The Times of India

That is far more common & has been for a long time. There is an infant Jesus church in Bangalore whose large number of believers happen to be Hindu. Seen many Hindu homes with a portrait of Jesus in the pooja room. This (Andhra Pradesh) is a bit more institutional in as much as the church organisations seem to be party to the deception having figured out that this is the only way to win new converts among the SC.

20% is probably an huge exaggeration but there have been consistent reports of Dalits converting but hiding the conversion because they don't want to lose out on reservations. They don't show up on official figures but they are there. Difficult to put a figure to it (anything would be just a guess) but there have been strong rumours of a figure as high as 11-13%.

they'll remain the same..where they are. simply gain some in the process..they'll gladly reconvert for money. souls not worthy of any.

we need a central hindu body in india. essential. like waqf board. for legal matters related to hindus.

Let's put some perspective on this, Indian Christians are a progressive, hard working group of people and they are prosperous. Let's not let Multani's jaundiced view of the world take away from their contributions to India :-)

oh and they are patriotic.

It is not what I mean by essence of Hinduism but what the secular Bengalis and others modern Hindus mean by essence of Hinduism. It is Hinduism pared down of all its artifacts, all its sacred living traditions, its gods, goddesses, divinities, literature, history, its architecture, its temples, its entire ecosystem. For the secular Hindu, all this is superstition, village folk lore, something practiced by the ignoramuses, plebeian Hindus, the unenlightened ones. It is only they, the seculars, who have grasped the spirit and the real essence of Hinduism.

There is the same contempt of idol worshipers, the same disdain of temples, the same derision of holy men, the same...you get the idea.

That is not as unusual as you make it out to be. Adi Shankara (secular keralite?) himself thought that temples etc were of little spiritual use to the "enlightened" but were harmless if common folks went there because as he put it " there is no point burdening a man's mind with more knowledge than it can handle". :)

That statement of yours will turn off many in this thread, though they will never say anything against waqf board.

My personal observation says that the Christian population has become stagnant. Christians are finding it hard to get more converts because of the hostile local population now more than willing to teach a lesson to these soul collectors.

Conflicts between Christians and Hindus are limited (usually only on the issue of conversion) and the two communities co-exist peacefully in general. But Hindu-Muslim is a different matter. Muslims will leave no opportunity to harass and insult Hindus. This Meerut incident is not isolated, it has been happening since few years in Western UP at small scales. But as usual, Hindus are a divided house and can do little to defend themselves.

I agree. Doesn't happen usually. The church organisations usually want a complete cut off, maybe they fear a "relapse".

drop them in middle east...they won't mention secularism ever again. :D (its nice way to check though how strong their beliefs are)!

Exactly. That changes everything. While Christian world has transformed itself, and most of the Christian-majority nations belong to the liberal, free-world we know what kind of image a Muslim-majority nation draws.

Meerut might turn out to be a small experiment, may be they are gauging the reaction right now.

But then there are inter-religion marriages. I have a Tamil Christian friend married to a Telugu Hindu girl and they worship probably all gods known in India. My friend is a big time Shirdi Sai Baba bhakt as well.

I kind of hate that mentality to be honest.

Plus, I am not going to cut off my friends and family for a religion.

i am not going into that angle at all. i agree with that. only muslims have that problem, but then that is not an indian problem alone..

for me, these guys are true indians. take what is given, say what is expected, live your life. they can manage all three indefinitely, subconsiously their children to be the same.

honestly, i don't take this issue seriously except to the NGOs doing that covertly. then, there's always an ulterior motive behind it. anyway..i the agree with the you.

Yeah, some of the charities are dodgy. I have heard of missionaries making use of poverty to convert Africans. Then you have evangelicals travelling to Uganda to make the population more prejudiced to LGBT community.
