Massive flooding in Zhengzhou, Henan

That is the emotional calling, which is also understandable. When you are emotionally charged, you don't see possible rational explanations and you are likely to do something that is in retrospect not much different from shooting yourself in the foot. But it felt good and right at that moment so that was what people wanted and what politicians made it surely happen. The real consequence is often not made public and is soon forgotten. It is like a funny stupid game we human beings play.
You sound like a market fundamentalist, market is always right, no need for regulation on predatory behavior.

Look, there are obviously plenty of hotels in Zhengzhou. They have survived free market with normal market prize, so obviously they are making money with normal market rate.

Now, their occupancy went up, because of higher demand, therefore they are making more money with normal market rate.

What the gov't did is right, such that all that people that need accommodation will have a place to go. The gov't only need to use taxpayer money to provide accommodation for those that really need it.

I have no idea what you mean by real consequence. It is not like this is the first time that China has a natural disaster, that create temporary disruption to market. The gov't has lots and lots of experience in dealing with this sort of thing, and things will get back to normal in no time soon.

market fundamentalists are just like any other fundamentalist. they cause massive destruction to their countries - just look at Russia after shock therapy or Argentina.

they are basically Taliban but hold up a basic econ textbook.

Acknowledging that there is exploitation in the market is the essential difference between communists and capitalists. This is also the fundamental legitimacy of communism. Capitalist countries try to avoid this idea being accepted by the people. So the US likes to preach freedom. And the essence of freedom is to legitimize the exploitation of capital.

In the US and Europe I always check the weather before I leave home it often dictates my choice of clothing and transportation. In London, I’d stay home at the merest hint of snow while in Norway I’d ignore snow with the exception of blizzards. In Dubai, I’d never even look at local weather ditto in Cairo or KL. In these cities the emphasis on local weather isn’t as strong as it is in Europe or the US. I wondered if there is a strong local interest in the weather in Chinese cities or is the weather so stable that most don’t even bother checking?
I guess German could have save them from any dead from the unsual heavy torrent flood recently with your theory.

But they didn't... I can bet it will happened the same to US. This heavy rain volume in Henan last recorded is 1000 years ago. Unusual high which caught everybody off guard.

You can predicted the rain but not the volume or the magnitude.

Yes you can predict the volume of rain with reasonable accuracy - accurate enough to evacuate and move people to high ground. In Germany, people died because they ignored flood alerts and evacuation orders. I can't understand why anyone would go underground when torrential rain is expected. Underground is the worst place to be. My question is why was the underground/ subway even operational and why would anyone choose to be underground during floods.

It was Monday morning, and this government agency’s supercomputer, a machine the size of a hockey rink, had just generated a model forecast predicting with over 90% certainty and a precision down to 2 square kilometers that a string of West German communities would likely be befallen by severe flooding by late Wednesday.

Nope. I am just a rational scepticist. I like to use common sense to predict human behaviors, not with my emotions, which often make me to believe whatever first pops in my mind and is often false.
