Hi

I was watching To the point talk show of Karan Thapar where I came across several statements from the captioned gentleman which would in less liberal countries result in sedition charges being slapped against him.

Few of the Gems are:

1. Indian actions vis-a-vis Nepal, Pakistan, Srilanka and Mynmar show that India under Modi has been conducting itself as hegemon.

2. Pakistan had stopped encouraging infiltration and terrorism in India under UPA Govt - 26/11 anyone?

3. Allusions that Gurdaspur attack was staged.

4. Justifying current levels of infiltration on disengagement by Modi.

5. Justifying Pakistan's narrative on Ufa debacle. Talks were meant on all issues. Modi made a mistake by not including Kashmir which was unfair to Pakistan

6. Pakistan had been diligent in prosecuting Lakhvi and company under UPA - why was the trial not finished then?

I stopped watching after that.

It's okay. There are a ton of Pakistani analysts who do not agree with their government policies. They have to run away from Pakistan or land up in Jail. Mani might be stupid in this case, but he has a right to be stupid. How else are we different from Pakistan otherwise?

. .
India aspires to be the toilet hegemon and the gang rape hegemon.

What Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar won’t say | The Indian Express

You must remember that Mani has a lot on his conscience. By now he has read, heard and been told a million times that his "chaiwalla" remark cost the elections for UPA. You really cannot blame him for going out of his way to make amends, in the worst manner possible. The best possible way to respond is to ask a simple question, as MJ Akbar rightly does in the article - why couldn't Mani, Khurshid & Co. achieve anything on peace with Pakistan when they were in power?

LOL, This a#@$ was part of the govt for 10 years and dint bring this out. Now ends us spewing shit all around for media focus.

wow...if only his constituents had taken him seriously enough to save his security deposit..let alone rest of India!

AFAIK, he did not even contest in the last election. And before that he was a RS MP. Most people hate him in TN.

well, he is a still influential man, but others have not fared so well...

Sedition: legislation meant to suppress the voice of Indian people - The Hindu

Anti-corruption cartoonist Aseem Trivedi arrested on sedition charges : India, News - India Today

"Binayak Sen's arrest has made India a laughing stock of the world" — OWSA: OneWorld South Asia - Latest news on sustainable development, features, opinions, interviews with NGO leaders and multimedia from India and South Asia

again, from ( India: Folk Singer Jailed for Sedition | Human Rights Watch )...
India’s sedition law is also contrary to the country’s international human rights obligations. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which India ratified in 1979, prohibits restrictions on freedom of expression on national security grounds unless they are provided by law, strictly construed, and necessary and proportionate to address a legitimate threat. Such laws cannot put the right itself in jeopardy.

“India’s Supreme Court has imposed sharp limits on what construes sedition and yet its rulings are repeatedly flouted by police and state governments to harass and arrest people who dare to criticize the government or its policies,” Ganguly said. “As long as this relic of the British era remains on the statute books, it will continue to be used to restrict peaceful expression.”

It's a frightening thought that this guy Mani Shankar could be back in the cabinet in 2019 !

I can just see it

Pappu as PM
Mani as foreign minister
kurshid in charge of defence
one of Lallus sons in finance
Azam khan in home.
Mr and Mrs Priyanka as president of congress.

The logical result of the famed intelligence ( more likely lack thereof ) of the Indian voter.

I agree with 1. India has been pushing around Nepal which is bad behaviour towards a neighbor. Nepalis do see us as a hegemon. Similar stupidity happened when a couple of Central ministers crowed about a cross-border operation(which is supposed to be a secret) in Myanmar.

Pushing Nepal How ?

. .
Pushing to change their constitution by implicitly supporting Madhesis in an internal issue.

Rubbish. Madhesis situation is similar to the Tamil situation in Sri Lanka and if India do not intervene, India will be forced into another situation like what happened in Sri Lanka or Bangladesh with pakistan started discriminating against BD.

Any matter that will affect India now or in the future is our business and history and wisdom dictate India intervene to secure our Future.

Its their internal matter only as long as it does not affect us. Similar to Chinese Submarine given berth in Sri Lanak or similar to Cuba giving shelter to Russian Missiles.
