My sister studied in Britain for three years for her BSc, and her experience with British Muslims was not very good. She often complained of their rigidness when it comes to religion and their non-integration into broader British society. She even said many British Muslims hated British society and called it Kafir, Infidel country. How come you people have come so far? Hate your own country that much that provided you with shelter, something your former country didn't?

Yes, your sister is generally right. Some British Muslims are all kinds of messed up.

Many can barely integrate among themselves, nevermind British society. Strangely enough, I've actually faced more sectarianism living among British Muslims for an year than I have living in Pakistan for decades. And no, I didn't live in a burger/posh area in Pakistan. Not even close.

Which is why I'm interested in looking at why exactly the situation for British Muslims is the way it is, and what makes Norwegian Muslims so much more integrated.

Here, aside from the AC gang that needs to get an A/C in their brains, the 'Sunnis' (That's what Barelvis here tend to call themselves) have a horrible tendency of labeling every Muslim they don't like the look of as 'Wahabis' and refusing to pray behind or say salam to them. Some mosques actually have signs that say nonsense like ''no deviant sects [insert list of all sects of Islam except one] allowed''.

Though my thoughtd are based on little more than an year of experience living here and maybe I just got to see the worst types of British Muslims first - my opinion may change with future experiences.

Still, an interesting subject.

It's not just a British problem. Its a Muslim problem and is well alive all over Europe except a few culturally strong nations such as Norway, Switzerland, Austria, Finland. I think it has something to do with over tolerance that these countries practice. Creeping Shariah is a reality few countries seem to tackle.
When I visited Pakistan this year, people generally wanted to be more Western than we expats who actually live in the West. Same thing is happening with the British Muslims. They want to be religiously more conservative than people from their former homeland, just in order to look 'cool'.
I think it's some sort of inferiority complex that give birth to both kinds of situations. I Norway we are taught to respect all cultures equally, and that no culture is superior or inferior to another. That's how we avoided homegrown freaks like Anjum Chaudhry. Its not that we don't have them, its just that they are unable to assemble gullible followers as Muslims here trust the Norwegian state unlike British Muslims.

there was a lot of racism against desi people.. which led to ghettos.. the lack of integration can also be blamed on that..
also, its not as bad as it looks from outside, I mean I dont know the internal politics/sectarianism among muslims, but overall they are doing okey.
