Losing interest in Indus civilization

Many Indians are interested in Indus civilization because they associate their country's science & engineering talent with this civilization. They think their country is making strides in science & technology because of the heritage of Indus civilization.

But if the same Indians come to know of the dark truth about India's science & technology, the interest in Indus civilization would fizzle out instantly. Many of India's successes and failures are hidden in mystery and things actually may not be as they appear. When I pondered over the real technological capability of India, I instantly felt like giving the Indus valley civilization discussion a complete miss. In light of these revelations, even if Indus civilization indeed belongs to India, I wouldn't give two hoots.

There are strong reasons to believe that India's civilian space programs and military R&D projects may be non-indigenous or even fake. Indian technology doesn't seem to be about innovation/ingenuity. It is probably about purchasing and managing. The list of misleading red herrings is long. For instance, if India's Mars and Lunar missions are real, why is it unable to invent engines for it's military plane even after so many decades of trying? If Indian space missions are real, why are Indian programmers/coders so notoriously incompetent? Why is India harassed by a tiny country of Pakistan? Please don't cite Western awards and other significant 'recognition' of Indian science & technology. West has it's own agenda and their hyped certificates often don't indicate real merit.

The question is why do Indians do it? Why would Indians fabricate a facade about their science & technology prowess? I can think of two answers: One, to deter nuclear attacks by creating a camouflage of great strength. Two, to make money by siphoning R&D funds. The point they want to convey is: "Since we are capable of making civilian rockets, we are also capable of making effective and functioning nukes. So beware and refrain from using your nukes."

Sir the people of Indus is doing fine here and almost all our military projects are success story here.

In the Arabic language, the word مدرسة madrasah simply means the same as school does in the English language, whether that is private, public or parochial school, as well as for any primary or secondary school whether Muslims, non-Muslim, or secular

One discomforting thought: Just as we Indians are confident of indeginous capabilities of our scientists, Pakistanis too are confident of their scientists. By corollary just as we ridicule Pakistan's nuclear and missile programme, one can also argue that India's technology is nothing but plagiarism. If you say that India's case looks more genuine, one can explain it with a solid reason that India has more money to create red-herrings (misleading clues) to make it look genuine. We, lay people cannot be sure because we are not in the know. We are not the concerned persons on ground zero. We can merely guess not even speculate. Hence it is often said that many of RAW's (RAW is also responsible for defense deals and has a science and technology division in its organisation) successes and failures are shrouded in mystery and we may never know the truth.

Tamil Nadu is in the midst of the worst drought in 140 years but clearly there is no drought of ideas. With an eye on protecting the water from the evil eye of the sun at the Vaigai dam near Madurai, Minister for Cooperation Sellur K Raju, decided he would be a Kannagi with a difference.

Like the legendary Kannagi who took revenge on the Pandyan king of Madurai who had wrongfully put her husband to death, by cursing the city to go up in flames, Raju decided to take on the Sun God no less. His weapon: Sheets of thermocol. Spending a fortune — Rs 10 lakh, no less — to buy the several sheets of thermocol, Raju arrived at Vaigai dam on Friday to float those sheets on the water. The previous night, he must have imagined a sheet of white over the water, preventing the loss of even a drop of water. The plan was to spread the sheets over 200 sq.m of water surface, out of the 12 hectares of water-spread in the dam area.

But Raju in his Physics class at school, had forgotten to read the chapter on wind velocity. The moment he set the sheets free, they took a life of their own and flew in all directions. His partner in the thermocol project, Madurai collector K Veeraraghava Rao now wiser from the failed experiment, says the correlation between wind velocity and thickness of thermocol sheets will be studied in the future. Raju and Rao — the modern-day Wright brothers from Madurai — now want to invest in heavier thermocol sheets to fulfill their flight of fancy. The ones used on Friday were just 2 cm thick.

But for those assembled at Vaigai dam, it turned out to be a comedy show with Tamil Nadu threatening to become 'Thermocol Nadu'. Raju had thought the sticky government tape will be good enough to hold together the thermocol sheets, just like the stickiness quotient of power has kept the AIADMK legislators together since February. But he had not calculated that once the expensive thermocol was out in the open, the wind will raid the reservoir and the thermocol sheets will run helter-skelter.

As Raju and Rao found their experiment going down the drain, concerns that thermocol which is made of polystyrene beads, would harm marine life were expressed. However, the two 'water scientists' felt that raising environmental concerns was a ploy to fish in troubled waters.

Science journals point out that experiments to prevent evaporation have been conducted with thermocol but they have been on ice or static water in farm ponds, not on running water in an open area. Now if the heavier thermocol also does not work, the AIADMK minister has declared that he wants to experiment more. He could look at the Los Angeles precedent where in August 2015, 96 million black plastic balls, called shade balls were dumped into the reservoir to prevent water loss through evaporation. While the experiment worked, it was found way too expensive than the water it saved.

Having blown away Rs 10 lakh from the public exchequer, money is not expected to be a factor in Raju's laboratory.

Intention-wise though, Raju's heart was in the right place. As MLA from Madurai, he wanted to ensure that the Vaigai dam that is the major source of water to Madurai district, is protected. But then it also proved that the media narrative is spot-on. This AIADMK government is truly bhagwaan bharose.

Even though Raju may claim political immunity by saying he was taking on the rising sun, the symbol of the Opposition DMK, his carelessness in dealing with public money has proved to be an embarrassment. With Raju's experiment ended in a watery grave, the O Panneerselvam camp would do well to put one fresh condition for merger talks. Give Raju the thermocol treatment and drop him from the cabinet.

The small mercy is that this kind of an experiment was not conducted in February, when all the AIADMK MLAs were locked inside the Golden Bay resort at Koovathur, 60 km from Chennai. Otherwise, an inspired VK Sasikala may have asked all AIADMK legislators to wear thermocol veshtis to ensure her support base does not evaporate.

Coming to technological advancement, well that depends on interest. If you are really and honestly a professional person you will aim less to take your appointment as a engineer in ISRO or DRDO merely as a Job but your passion.

Most of the planners and technocrats in India take their Job as settlement , secured life kind of a scenario. Which needs to be changed. But many make their Job as passion and that's what leads to development.

So many members are getting the post wrong. So I suppose something must be wrong with articulation. The thread is not about interest and priorities of Indian engineers. The thread is about the doubts and question mark about capabilities of Indian scientists.

if you take your job merely as income producer, well the capability will reduce. It's simple funda. You need to be highly passionate, mad, and want to do something. And your capability will increase. The current development of India is credited to those passionate people who have no personal life and are mad about what they are upto. That zeal and zest!

India has never produced any defence product on its own from scratch, so such questions should be asked with care. Indian missiles are copies or reverse engineered copies of Soviet missiles. Indian jet fighters are designed and developed by either Russian, American, or European companies. Likewise, the rockets used to probe space are Russian technology, painted with Indian colors (it costs money too).

The failure of Kaveri engine is a proof that India alone cannot design any modern defence article. Probably no western or European country or Russia was willing to extend help on this program, which is why the DRDO could not copy anything to make it working.

A) Indian coders :- 5 Indian hackers hacked 250 Pak website in a single day and posted link on the new site , The link also posted on PDF , so that everyone can check those websites by themselves.

B) Indian nuke :- Indian is the World Leader in fast Breeder Technology.

C) Why no Indian missile look like other missiles of the world, like PAK missile look like NK missiles??

D) Soviet and Us copied missile technology from Germany

F) Indian Plane - tejas is designed by Indian, even Chinese planes designed is buys frm Russia/ Israeli etc.

G) Indian attack chopper designed / build by Indian and also Light Chopper

H) Space based Engine is designed and developed by India , that's why India keep on developing technology in rockets year after year ....

I) plane engine is complex technology, even China is struggling it out. In next 3-4 yrs things will change after Pvt sector coming in engine technology.

Its been only 50-70 years with hi technology and people here are willing to pass judgments on technology of Civilizations thousand years ago.
Mahabharat clearly says that Sanjay could see battle in Krukshetra sitting somewhere in Delhi-Meerut. Now 70 years ago it would seem a fairytale. But today a person in Indian village with free 4G connection with "Jio" can have face chat with a guy in America. The only difference is we today use Mobile and Network, whereas Sanjay used some secret thing.
Now certain PDF posters take this liberty to comment on India Hinduism but don't realize Mumbai has more GDP than whole Pakistan. Audacity is cheap it seems
