For janaza of Amjad Sabri killed by Islamists in Pakistan, thousands attended. For ppl killed by islamists in Bangladesh, hardly anyone comes!

Amjad-Sabri-Namaz-e-Janaza-Pictures.jpg

Here's another example of her trying to take an unpopular stance but without a valid cause....Amajd Sabri was high profile muslim celebrity..no high profile person has been killed in Bangladesh by Islamists....one high profile person who was attacked by Islamists was Humayun Azad(he died later of other causes)...he was openly atheist....but his namaz-e-janaza was attended by thousands of people(who knew he was atheist)....so far Islamists have killed mostly regualr people in BD...so there is no reason to expect thousands of people to attend their funeral.....either Ms.Nasrin is confused or intentionally trying to establish a false equivalency here.

which one are you more upset about.. the lack of literary value or misrepresentation of bd society in her books...
Mostly the disappointing lack of literary value to what was actually a genius plot...she did misinterpret the society...but the reality was awful enough to write an extremely well novel about those riots with such a good plot...its kind of like you try to write a novel about a Bangladeshi genocide...but you portray the Pakistanis as Nazis rather than Pakistanis...Bangladeshi genocide was horrible but it was different from the holocaust in many ways...so if I am a Pakistani reading the novel I will loose interest from the very beginning because I will fail to relate to the Pakistanis portrayed in your novel....the riots of 90s was different from the riots of 47...the causes were different...the targets were different....the mindset was different...a 90s Bangladeshi will never be able to relate to a 47s Bangladeshi....if the intention of the novel was some sort of self realization for the horrible stuff Bangladeshi muslims did to his hindus it failed. And the rape made it even harder for a Bangladeshi muslim to empathize with the Bangladeshi hindu...whatever the novel had done upto this point could have been swallowed....but the rape made it a fair exchange of violence thus requiring little or no empathy for the victim.

.
Like Hitchen's she is a contrarian..isn't afraid to take unpopular stances...but Hitchens took his stances based on logical justification(at least to himself) and those stances sometimes happened to be unpopular....I sometimes feel Nasrin takes unpopular stances because they are unpopular trying to create a stir.
I still remember her criticizing none other Sachin tendulkar about his statement when Satya Sai baba died. Man... That requires courage and she does not lack it.

rape IMO was the show of impotency or acute helplessness ( which ever you like !) of the central character. when he could not do any thing for his abducted sister he tortured a sex worker get a feeling of revenge. One thing should also be noted that religion of sex worker was rather vogue and she could be a hindu as well. it long back but her name was some think like Pinky or something.

Its one thing to become an anti-hero from a victim...it is quite another to become an out right villain...and to the general audience it is extremely difficult to relate to a rapist...even if the victim just contemplated rape(in as much detail as she likes)(and this is usally the reality...helplessness drives people to think of thousands of horrible things to do...but people rarely do anything) without actually carrying it out I think people would sympathize more...and regarding the religion...he asked the girls name ar first to which she replied pinky...but then he wanted to know her real name(and probably her fathers name too)...she gives a muslim name...but I remember vividly he asked the girl whether she was muslim or not after he raped her...this killed it..being a muslim back then(however liberal) this kind of made me loose any respect or sympathy I had for the guy...and I suppose that would be true for a muslim majority audience.

Lajja/Shame ... I was not seeking any substance.. I was just interested in what the fuss is about...
About this book Lajja in Bengali. I started to read this book, but what I read in the Preface stopped me from proceeding further. She is just a cheap vulgar woman writer who has no shame/lajja.

‘Don’t call me Muslim, I am an atheist’- By Taslema Nasreen-

The Hindu Online news portal asked her-

What could be Bangladesh’s future?

"The country will be heading for a complete disaster if Islamic terrorists are not brought to justice. However, given the past record, nothing will happen and such incidents will increase in the coming months, as they are intrinsically connected with politics."

:p:

. . .
Taliban also claimed responsibility for the murder of Sardar Suran Singh as well but it turned out to be the internal PTI rivalry.
Sabri wasn't a politicial or even a secterian sort of personality .. He was murdered to induce terror rather than any personal enmity...

It's definitely a terrorist strike ...

.
Anyone can write anything on Twitter..... It's a waste of bandwidth to have thread about it....it's even more pointless when we are wasting our time on a talentless imbecile with zero relevance for BD.

.
He is an atheist...and he does mock Islam in his writing....it could or could not anger muslims(based on the personal sensibility of the said muslim...whether he can take a joke or criticism or not)....but the majority of the angry muslims never read the book...never even read a summary....Mullahs said..Book Bad Must Kill....the sheeple reacted...got angry and protested against a guy that is not in their country for a book that was not even published in their country....things got heated...protests got intense and the whole world saw the idiocy of the general muslim population.
I shall have a look in his work and decide for myself then.

. .
No- because i hate him and i hate his work.
You need to read it before you hate it. :hitwall:

I have read that...the premise was commendable....but she twisted it to a level where the situation was escalated to direct action day type riots...and the unnecessary rape by the victim of a Muslim prostitute she brought at the end was disgusting....another one I read was Shodh...that sealed the deal for me....she seems confused between sexual freedom of woman and the situation of a sex-deprived middle aged woman who cheats on her husband(the husband isn't even cheating on her)...
It's called the paradox. It is a form of art just like sarcasm.

Ah...okay that sounds really awkward. You know, there are better ways to deal with those people than just...you know....threatening them? Who cares what some Ayatollahs from abroad have to say?

That reminds me. You know the leader of Hezbollah - Hassan Nasrallah? He mentioned that he read all of Nathanyahu's books. His reason? To know his enemies better. Ah, the art of war by Sun Tzu - Simply one of the best.

Stop hating my friend, and never stop to gain knowledge. Even about your opponents.

I believe that those people are wrong on many levels, and they can be proven wrong. I really doubt if they'd last long in any debate. And there are divisions within themselves as well.

Just quit hating and being so anti-intellectual. It'll ultimately cost you and those around you.

Hope you understand.

It's called the paradox. It is a form of art just like sarcasm.

Those don't work too well over here.

i think whole idea was not to create sympathy for the guy .. but to give a glimpse of demon lurking inside human being. The guy Suranjan was for the most part of the novel comes as an insensitive good for nothing chap. he even crack jokes on the victims of riots and riot incidences. He hardly cares for any one including his family and refuses to do any thing for the safety of family despite repeated requests from his sister to take shelter in some friendly Muslim house.

Ok I can live with that...but doesn't that shift the focus of the book to "how man behaves when he is faced with disaster" from "a protest against religious violence around the world" as claimed by the writer...I mean just put in the setting of a post cyclone community...cyclone's coming..family asks to be moved to shelter...he doesn't...looses his house..one of the family member dies...guy's animal instincts come out...kills an innocent man and steals his stuff....do you think TN came with the "protest against religious violence" after she wrote the book...or was it her intention to write a book about religious violence? Because if her intention was to PROTEST....it just didn't work...because the character complexity just took the lime light away from the actual issue which was the riot.
