Lockheed Martin to display F-35 joint strike fighter at Aero India 2011 in Bangalore

Not a good choice for real aircraft carriers, because it is the most limited version (payload, range...), if at all the C version, but IN already denyied to go for F35. Naval MMRCA + naval FGFA will be the better and more cost-effective combo, because of commonality to IAF fleet!

Oops, I didn't knew that IN was denied to go for F-35.

I am not sure of deadlines but feel that naval FGFA and naval MMRCA even if selected, may take more time to reach IN.

But if Russia can fast-track naval FGFA VTOL version, then that would be great.

Is there even an FGFA VTOL version on the lines ?

I dont know if it's worth radically changing the whole design to convert an aircraft into VTOL. The current T-50's structure does not look anywhere close to VTOL. VTOL is not a compulsion for Navy.

I am not sure about VTOL but a naval FGFA is certainly on the cards.

Sancho might be able to shed more light on this.

I am sure by the end of 2011, US would have inked a deal for 50-70 F-35B or F-35C for India's SFC or Naval tactical force respectively! Thats affirmative!

^^ IF that does happen mate do u know the repecussion .....
IAF will be un deniable the strongtest Air Force in South Asia ....

by a long way

Even if it could ..... lot of people will be trying really very hard to scuttle it or ull see the arrival of F-15 Silent Eagles in the neighbourhood

Lockheed Martin Denies F-35 Presence at Aero India 2011
2010-11-09 Defense and aerospace communities were abuzz with the reports that the Lockheed Martin F-35 would make a debut at Aero India 2011 -- Asia's premier air show -- to be held in Bangalore in the second week of February 2011.

These reports unfortunately proved false as Lockheed Martin F-35 Communications categorically states:

"No, unfortunately that report was not correct. The F-35 will not be at Aero India in 2011."

LM is serious about F35's chances in India.

ARE VTOL VERSIONS OF AIRCRAFTS GOOD?
BCOZ WE HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE IN MAINTAINING HAWKS. 28 OUT OF 40 HAVE BEEN CRASHED TILL NOW.
SO DO WE REALLY NEED TO BUY A VTOL VERSION?

There won't be a VTOL version, way too heavy for that and not needed anyway, because all ne carriers will have arrested landing.

Silent Eagle.. You got to be kidding.... its more costly than F-35 and Eurofighter @ US$100 million per piece.

Forget it.

But its an amazing aircraft.

correction benny , cost of f35 is more then silent eagle but maintenance of SE is expensive.
the package saudis got includes the training and weapons.

what's up with you guys as soon as we see new shining toy , suddenly it is desired in our armed forces. we dont need F35 because when iac2 will come i hope we will acquire naval FGFA and again when we get delivery of F35c , naval FGFA will be ready which is more cost effective, with out strings, suited for our requirement and never face embargo of spare parts.
believe me we are not going for war in next 15 years :D

I was quoting wiki and janes

F-35 costs were 96 million USD for the Israel deal ( fly away)

While F-15 Silent Eagle price was USD 100 million.

Boeing unveils Silent Eagle

Yes the price F-35 will shoot to $150 million per plane with additional costs.. B

The main reason for low base price of Israeli F35s is that they are without the electronic warfare package and some other goodies (possibly even the radar). These are high value items and when integrated will raise the price of the aircraft to the 120 million range.

Do you have any source for the bold part. This is a little bit difficult to believe especially if we assume that IAC 2 will be delivered on time.:disagree:

I'd love to believe you!

I agree with that. F-35 is not really good enough for our doctrine. FGFA will carry more payload for our navy. F-35 maybe hi-tech but if we can wait which we certainly can, a semi-Indian product would be far better.
