Lockheed Martin offers F-16 Block 70, for India, from India, exported to the world

That is the precise reason that begs this question, why go for F-16s?

What?

Why? Why go for F-16s which Pakistan is operating for some 30 years? Rafales and Russian jets are much better.
F-16 is not F-35.

Do you think its not gonna happen, I dont think so.

You will eventually lose air superiority over Pakistan if you go F-16IN, instead of Rafales.
Its more expensive for a reason.
Kindly explain how India will lose air superiority? Also do you know the difference between F-16 block70( IN) vs F-16 block 52?

F-16 whatever it may be , looks a 100 million bucks

On Topic, India will negotiate hard and maneuver towards the General Atomics drones.. If there is a deal that will come for another fighter it will be F35 at a later 2021-25 timeline where its directly competing with PAKFA stage 1 order of 4 squadrons.

But American fighters in frontline is very very difficult. Bcz as i listed above these techs wont be shared at all...
pari why is there no word of our typhoon be offered to india?.......... maybe we dont like the hoha and just went to the serious clients like kuwait

personally im not a fan of the f16 to india persoanlly i perfer the f18 to replace the mig-27, jags and the mig 21 being replaced by the lca

@waz

This was the case in the last government. Members want to take seriously when the current MoD said recently of a another production line being opened(outside HAL), we speculated a line for Rafale, sure. The same MoD, even more recently, said a production line for a completely different line of birds a month ago in the TATA Boeing Apache fuselage plant ceremony. Of which Boeing is somehow still in the game.

You guys gotta stop brushing these things in the carpet. Ask me about F16, F18, Griphen, etc. getting in a year ago, I would've laughed at you. Not the case any more. This current government is throwing things in the air.

This isnt just interesting in the Indian defence context, but defence context as a whole. As you, may, see a production line outside HAL producing jets.

Nothing much will come of this and I've heard similar things for years and years, and that's exactly what it is i.e. the government throwing things in the air. You maybe a fan of the F16, but plenty of senior members have rubbished the idea. If you want to discuss I'll keep it open, but keep it in here, unless you want 100,000 threads about the F16 being made in India on the Indian defence forum. I still remember all the "Grippen made in India ", F-18 made in India" threads.

Typhoon was offered to India but rejected. Users of Typhoon themselves are deserting the platform for much capable F-35 American platform.

The HOHA is because of may first

1. FIRST TIME AMERICAN OFFERING THERE ONCE PRIME FIGHTER JET F-16 TO INDIA
2. F-16 WILL BE MANUFACTURED IN ALLAINCE WITH INDIAN COMPANY (TATA) .
3. ONLY PRODUCTION LINE IN THE WORLD , JUST THINK OF SPARE PARTS AND THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX SIZE

So I guess all the noise regarding the deal is worth its sound. :D

At the end of the day, a plane approaching obsolescence in the west is being built in India.

I have a license for a model T Ford I can sell you!

F-16 deal is really a coup against the generals of Pakistan(of course depending on if the deal comes through). Imagine in the late 80's when Pakistan relations with U.S. took a nose dive on the sanctions regime that stopped the sale of the same jet that may end up being "built" in India? Irony at its ultimate best!
Spot on! If by 2020 all goes well and India starts production of the state-of-the-art F-16 Block 70/72, what happens to Pakistan's air force that has 70 F-16? They'll be grounded for want of spares and third line maintenance! That means putting the screws on Pakistan by other means! 8-)

the typhoon only lost to the rafel because of it higher cost. the typhoon is mainly an air-supeirority and have multirole aspects to it whilst the rafale is a multirole fighter.
f16's have been built in turkey, south korea, japan(modified) and in europe too.

The proof of the pudding is eating it. Pakistan had f 16 30 years before yet not given TOT or any production line. India has been offered f 16 as it solves many issues. Cheaper to produce, South Asian countries(sri lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh etc can get a proven platform at cheaper price. Lockheed martin is still updating the aircraft after 30 years and will continue for another 30 . So the service life will be easily 2050. For training and positive reviews can contact PAF , as PAF pilots swear by f sollah :D

True that Typhoon is very good in Dog fight and more Air to Air capable. But also Britain , Italy have ordered f 35 and will eventually replace all to F-35. The whole European consortium is itself very slow in updating the aircraft .

I do know.
Keyword eventually.

F-16 blk 70 was rejected for a reason.
Rafale fared better in the tests, for a reason.
Pakistan is moving ahead with JF-17 (blk 2, blk 3) for example.

While the numbers of Aircraft India has will be larger than Pakistan for a long time, the specs difference will reduce.

Sticking to Rafale was a much better idea for India.

@Blue Marlin
The smart city plan for Typhoon deal did not work out.

UK and Germany wanted to adopt a city under Smart City program. The city shortlisted is in Maharashtra with an airstrip available for such a plan to execute. The plan talked about developing a complete Euro Fighter city where every company involved in building the EF opens up their shop in that city itself and shifts its manpower and ups the local recruitment to settle there. This way the whole city woulkd be developed as a manufacturing hub specialized in building the Typhoon and will see a all round development and smartly teh countries will invest at one go and get both smart city and a aeronautical hub to build EFs in India.

Incredibly the plan was very short sighted bcz making a complete city into smart city with EF as a base is beyond doubt a bit exaggeration. On top the investments and job losses makes it politically nonviable.

Thus Cameron and Merkel gave a quite burial to it when this smart city plan was politely rejected.

I did cover it in rafale sticky but somehow its buried now in heaps of posts ....

Yes, 30 years ago. That's how old the aircraft is.

Pakistan never asked for TOT because it would not be financially effective to produce it in Pakistan with the relatively small amount they needed.

The reason it is being phased out is that it cannot be updated any further. It is more cost effective to design new aircraft.

It is like beginning construction of brand new mig-21's when there are mig-29's and mig-35's out there.

Sir we need a Toyota(f-16) and not a Mercedes(rafale). Concept of MMRCA was to keep the cost low and a Multi role fighter. F -16 block 70 was rejected under government of Congress(Sonia Gandhi favoured French for personal reasons). F 16 has participated in so many missions and wars worldwide and is a well sorted platform. Rafale is very good but still very expensive and French produce very slow and over all its just coming a shade cheaper then F-35. Initially the whole deal was valued at 10 billion USD. Then it inflated to 12 Billion and when 2 years back finalised it was valued 25 billion usd +. Still French snob over TOT, Production guarantee, and many other issues. We have already delayed the process by 12 years and any further delay shall collapse the IAF capacity as MIG 21 BIs, Mig 27 are being retired in 2018.

Stop your brain farts for a change. These aren't your antique block 52 F-16s Fighting Falcons. These are spanking new F-16 BLOCK 70/72 Super Vipers which is the closest you can get to the present stealth platforms. They are in the same category as the Rafale and EF. Most of all they will be highly cost effective as India would become the base for sale and maintenance of the 4500 F-16s in air forces around the world.

f-16in-mk_l.jpg

The integration of fifth-generation technology into the fourth-generation platform is pretty much what makes an already-potent fighter an even more potent air-to-air and air-to-ground killer. Lockheed Martin added a number of upgrades to beef up the Fighting Falcon into the Super Viper.

The most powerful upgrade comes in the form of the AN/APG-80 AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar system. The AN/APG-80 gives the pilot incredible situational awareness and the ability to target and track in any weather/atmospheric condition with stunning precision.

An infrared search and track (IRST) system, the ability to integrate the Indian Air Force’s Operational Data Link (which allows for interoperability with other Indian fighter/attack/AWACS/support units), an onboard electronic warfare suite from Raytheon, and an upgraded modular mission computer add to the F-16IN’s sizable resume.

The cockpit has been redeveloped to an extent, with three color high-definition MFDs (multi-function flight displays) feeding the pilot everything he needs to know, as well as the ability to integrate the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS). An updated General Electric F110-132A functions as the sole powerplant, able to output over 32,000 pounds of thrust, and the Super Viper also carries conformal fuel tanks (CFTs) with a built-in fuel probe, designed to mate with the basket/drogue refueling system used by Indian aerial tankers, instead of the boom/receptacle system commonly used by American F-16s.

So, in reply to your laughing smiles, take this...:P :P :P

@Abingdonboy seems you might be correct on Rafale in MII, but Gripen is out @dadeechi i continue to disagree on f-16s, not happening. If at all F-18s.

@Blue Marlin can you shed something about EF offer? Getting some whispers but issue is the consortium involved. The Brits are a pain and unreliable under US pressure

@OrionHunter stop spanking kiddies ... LOL! You need to have patience with them. Indulge or ignore them. You are becoming terribly cruel - spanking them left and right like @Rain Man. :omghaha:
