No, this is not the new Turkish tank. New tank will be ALTAY MBT. This an upgrade to Leo2A4s for all the user countries by ASELSAN. But this upgrade will share many subsystems with ALTAY including FCS and mini STAMP.

At the end of the article there are some comments about the quality of this tank by some readers. It makes me think whether it's an advantage that Turkey keeps upgrading old tanks that may be way past time for disposal...

Are we doing it for gaining know-how and learning. Somehow that's the only thing that seems to make sense.

The gun is longer, allowing for a higher peak pressure from the propellant, but the geometry remains the same, allowing the gun to fire the same ammunition as that fired from the shorter version. When using the new DM 53 KE round (with Tungsten penetrator) , the L55 enables approximately an 30 percent increase in performance compared with conventional systems. So, the longer barrel allows the same ammunition to attain higher velocities (1750m/s), which translates to a) same penetration power but at longer ranges (up to +1600m) or b) greater (kinetic) armor penetration at given range. Estimated penetration performance of the DM 53 (LKE II) tungsten long rod penetrator round fired by the Rheimetall 120mm L55: 750 mm at 2000 meters. By comparison, depleted uranium penetrator: US Projectile M829A1 penetration performance 610 mm at 2,000 meters and US M829A2 approximately 730 mm at 2,000 meters. The M829A3 round (1555 m/s)will provide the M1A1 and M1A2 Abrams tanks with 765 mm at 2,000 meters.

Not exaxtly, the Upgrade is just bought from Rheinmetall. The only thing turkish i see on the tank is the machine gun weapons station.
