Leasing a car.. need help

Since.. we post a lot of .. unusual threads here..
I thought id use it as well.

Im need a new car.. can only lease it.. since I dont have the capital..

I already own a Toyota Platz 2003.. which was also on a lease that ends next month.
now.. first.. what car do I get within a million rupees.. of which I expect to put two hundred thousand as down payment and the rest financed..
I was hoping for a large car.. so I can then keep the platz which I am very fond of.

On the other hand.. I have been given a suggestion to sell the platz..
god knows how much it will go for.. it is in relatively good condition.
and use that cash as down payments to lease two cars..
a large one and a small one..

Lets say I can safely afford dishing out 45k a month on lease payments.
So.. whats the option?

Keep the platz... dish out more than two hundred thousand for a car that costs 1.6 to 1.9 million and take that on lease?
Or get a smaller older car.. say 2006-2007 model..for around .8 to a million?

Or sell the platz.. get 7 to 8 hundred thousand out of it.
and use that as down payments for a large sedan and small runabout?

Options for the runabout.. the suzuki swift..(indian members have more exp with that car.. like mileage and stuff).. or the toyota vitz..

options for the large expensive car.. The Hyundai sonata(2006).. the corolla altis.. or something else.

Or the large older mid range car.. 2006 honda civic..or something comparable

Need some help with this.. since Im good at driving.. not so good at finances.

Hey Santro,

I am not of much help with the selection of cars, but I do have a question:
First you said 'Lease' and later you mentioned that you may sell the Platz. The word lease means that you dont own the car , rather you are paying a monthly fee for use of the car. Sometimes in India, this is called 'hire-purchase'.
Have you perhaps bought the Platz on installments? Then you would be calculating 'loan repayment', not 'lease payment'

Actually, I just saw the mention of Suzuki Swift. My brother owns it in Pune. It is a good looking car, with one flaw , very poor rear visibility.

Just my two bits:
In India, the Swift has done well,seems to be a good car, packaged very well i.e. cost of maintenance and fuel consumption, sufficient space and reasonably comfortable ride.
About Hyundai Sonata vs. Corolla Altis, I would'nt approach the Sonata by a mile; never owned or driven one but friends in India cursed the car, especially for running costs. On the other hand, the Corolla Altis; while looking relatively homely, is low-maintenance.

i am assuming that the suzuki swift ur reffering to IS the same as the MUL swift here as zuki has diff naming conventions...for eg our m800 is actually alto outside as when our esteem used to be the swift outside.

The hatchback swift is a true drivers car.Having personally drive it for a considerable time can say sumthng abt it:
Pros:
Engine responsiveness,handling,AC,low mntc costs.Behaves well for a small car on the highway too

Cons:
Mileage is a wee bit low, though owners of the new KB 10 engine says teh milege has gone up marginally(read 2km more per litre in city condition)
Front Fat A pillar hinders side vision
Rear visibility is not great
Rear space as in leg space is a bit cramped.BUt you can easily seat 3 moderately fat on teh rear couch


BTW if ur looking at a city car, the new MUL Ritz if available in ur country is a cheaper alternative with better interiors.Though teh handling is not a as gr8 on the swift.

In India, Toyotas are respected. I presume Vitz may be better considering it's Japanese .
Swift is a Sweet Car. I've personally driven only Diesel Model powered by Fiat Multijet Engine and it was a pocket rocket!(Turbo). much better feeling than petrol cars I guess.('coz I like the Turbo kicking up!)

In India, most cars are Diesel powered including 'Rolla . One thing Good with Toyotas are their body shell lasts longer. I mean, compared to Hyundais or Tata's, Body Rusting has slim Chance. if intend to keep the car above 4 years, get Toyota(considering quality is the same). Toyota Innova is a great Hit in India.

unless its a Hayabusa -- dont go for Suzuki. They are garbage. New or old. And DEFINITELY dont go for Hyundai either. that is absolute garbage.

whats the interest rate thats will define al if arent quoted than get a quote

with lease agreements you got to be careful with two things infact you can negotiate with banks on

interest rates
redemption rates ( early settlement )

Go for a honda , i have been driving suzukis for over two years
con's are
1) drive sucks
2) its a match box
3) shitty quality
4) crap AC

pro's

1)cheap maintainance and repair bills

why suggesting honda

My freind bought one same time as me and he is less frequent to the garage , although he paid 3 hundred thousand more than mine

Vitz is one good car don't skip it off your list. Ever considered nissan March? Bad on picture but good up front. Anyways don't go for honda , good performance but parts are really expensive.
One car that is becoming quite popular in dhaka right now is mazda Axela, price range is same as corolla but good looks. This one
