I really appreciate your interest towards our national language otherwise my cousins living overseas dont even talk to us on skype, For them we Pakistanis are terrorists , they just feel proud in calling them canadian nationalists.

Urdu:

Mein waqai aapke apni qaumi zaban mein dilchaspi ko sarhata hun warna mere cousin jo berun-e-mulk rehte hein hum se baat nahi karna chahte skype pe, un ke liye hum Paksitani dehshatgard hein,Wo apne aap ko caadian kehne pe fakhar mehsus karte hein.

My urdu lesson for the day: ap ka din acha guzrae
somehow I lol'd :D

as a native north Indian (hindi speaker), I only need to tweak a few words here and there and but I can understand/speak it.

can't read the script and I have 0 knowledge of the technicalities and grammar etc but as far as I can tell it's a beautiful language, and imo next to french, the most poetic, very cultured.. much tehzeeb etc (like even if you're angry, it comes out very well mannered etc)

@gau8av ,

I notice that there is slight similarity in Urdu and Hindi. For example in Urdu, after a sentence is made there is the suffix or ending 'Ho'. Is this similar , in regards to syntax, to how Hindi speakers will apply the "He" at the end of a sentence ?

a "ho" ending ? not sure I completely follow, and it's a bit complicated so not sure I'll be able to break it down accurately but "ho" means many things..here's a few examples:

there's an indian pop song "jai ho" .. in which case "ho" is just sort of a reverent cheer thing translating to "let there be"

ho gaya.. it happened

ho-naye wala hai.. it's going to happen

jo ho gaya so ho gaya.. whatever happened, let it be

allah ho akbar.. at least that's how they say it around here, translating to afaik: may god be victoriouis

that probably didn't help, right ? sorry

hopefully someone can explain it better, languages are tricky things sometimes.. spl our asian ones :cheesy:

I believe it is mix of punjabi n Urdu. I can also understand local Urdu style here. And believe me its pretty much sweet compared to local Mumbai language. My 2 cents.

What does this mean?

Iss manhoos ko mas'ala kiya hai?????

I assume it's something bad, but just want to know. I've had a number of occasions where natives have been addressing me in Urdu/Hindi/Punjabi/Who knows what language.
More often than not, they were on the loosing end of the debate.

Thanks in advance.

Or better yet, if I go to a Pakistani store / resto , i can get discounts? ha ha!
