LCA LSP-3 with ELTA radar to fly today

I think something is wrong with those photos released in press.

This is one of the photos posted on last back page


Just look at the side intakes in above photo ( blunder no auxiliary intake)

Now look at the modified intakes which were designed at the request of IAF, you notice that swing door on intake


And one of the other photos released today has that modified door while topmost one dosent have this

I mean something is wrong , either two single seaters took to sky today . One with modified intakes + other one with old intakes or Some blunder??????????

May be , i just googled tejas , I correct it below

Modified intakes are present on Tejas look at the last photo i posted ,zoom it , you will see those side intakes

u r right it is the modification done as given.

Top HAL decision-makers pooh-pooh the IAF’s contention that the LCA’s air intakes are incorrectly designed, resulting in oxygen starvation and incomplete burning and, therefore, sub-optimal engine power from the F-404s. At the same time, however, steps are being taken to improve air intake, without getting into major redesign that could set back the programme by years. Instead, auxiliary air intakes are being provided on the sides of the Tejas engine housing --- similar to those on the Jaguar (see photos).

The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA Tejas) Limited Series Production (LSP) 3 aircraft took off for the first time today. This is the ninth test vehicle to join the flight line to undertake development flight trials of the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas towards operational clearance for induction in the IAF by the end of the year. The LSP-3 is a quantum jump in terms of the equipment fit on the aircraft. It is almost the final configuration including the new air-data computers, Israeli Elta multimode radar, new communication and navigation equipment and radar warning receiver. With this successful flight, the LCA programme is very close to Initial Operations Clearance (IOC), to be achieved by December. The remaining effort is mostly flight testing and demonstration of sensors and weapon performance.

The test aircraft was flown by Wg Cdr G Thomas, VM of the National Flight Test Centre (NFTC) at ADA. As per procedure the first flight was accompanied by a chase aircraft which was a Tejas Trainer flown by Gp Capt RR Tyagi, the Chief Test Pilot and Wg Cdr (Retd) PK Raveendran SC, the Group Director (Flight Test). The test flight was conducted from the Telemetry station by the Test Director, Wg Cdr S Toffeen, under the supervision of Air Cmde Rohit Varma VM, the Project Director (Flight Test). The flight took off from HAL airport in Bangalore and all the objectives of the flight were met within the duration of 52 minutes.

With this flight the total number of test flights accumulated across nine test vehicles of the Tejas programme has reached one thousand three hundred and fifty and has logged about 800 hrs of flight.

I have gone through the link previously. But it was confirmed earlier that the radar is EL/M-2032 with Indian inputs. IAF is interested in 2052 but not this time.

LCA Radar testing today !

The long wait finally ends, Aviation Week has reported that the LCA will fly today with a Multi-Mode Radar onboard. But there is catch, according to the report the radar is not the Indian MMR but a Israeli Elta-2032. There is still widespread confusion in the media as to which radar will be fitted on the LCA Mk-1. Today's test will be on the LSP-3 as it was said by the HAL before.
Today's test should clear the confusion as to which radar the LCA Mk-1 will carry. The confusion was created as soon as the LRDE said that the MMR was delayed and with reports suggesting that the Israeli radars will be used on the LCA. With almost everybody agreeing to it there was new catch. Some reports said that the Israeli radar will be the Elta 2032 where as some report suggested that it will be the advance Elta 2052 AESA radar which the IAI is desperately trying to sell.
But a few months back there was another news article which said that the Indian MMR was ready and will be tested soon. Angle of Attack was informed that the MMR faced integration problems when the cooling system was not functioning properly which resulted in delay of testing. According to a HAL engineer the Indian MMR is also AESA which might be true with so much confusion and a abnormal silence by HAL on this matter.
What every it is Angle of Attack will be one of the first to clear the confusion, more accurate information will be available if the today's test takes place. Today's test is some what on the weather's mercy but there is hope that the skies will be clear in Bangaluru today. All the tests necessary to receive the IOC are completed and only the radar testing phase remains.
