Large reserves of crude oil found in Sindh

"Pathetic Pakistanis," respect.

What did you try to perceive from this this that:that Pakistan is not for a professional like you.Who complements himself?I don't mean to sound bad but that's what it sounded like to me.Call me what you want, mock me,abuse me,don't ever judge every Pakistan and tag them as 'Pathetic'.
I don't see how you concluded that......i only mentioned that because there is no field in Pakistan producing this figure...... the point was not to undermine Pakistan .... I still live there...... But to have my say - what i do.....

Fair point,i might have rushed things.

I'm not an expert either. Though I've had experience of managing Offshore Oilfield Support Services in the past. But @niaz sahab is the expert here. His input and opinions are invaluable.

Hon Capt. Popeye,

I thank you for the honour. In my opinion there is no such thing as an 'Expert'. Having more than 40 years’ experience, I know a little more but this is primarily because I know where the information is and having access to the library of American Institute of Chemical Engineers; often I can get hold of such info.

It is well known that most Pakistani oil producing field are small probably having reserves of 5 to 7 million barrels only. Largest field to the best of my info was the Dhullian field which produced about 40-million bbls of light crude but it is now exhausted. Currently the Mela oil field in Kohat is probably the best producer at about 2,000 bbl. per day.

Admittedly, 1095 bbl. per day is nothing to boast about, but any new find no matter how small is welcome news.

Thank you @niaz sahab for responding. In your characteristic modesty; you have played down your knowledge. However your posts have been great sources of knowledge to all of us here on PDF w.r.t. Oil/Gas and Energy related matters, to the extent that you have been able to explain the intricacies of many esoteric technical matters in very simple terms; thus helping people like me to gain knowledge.
My own exposure to Oil and Petroleum is limited to having been a Marine Professional and I was able to cut my teeth in the transportation of Oil and products by Sea; with a later exposure to the Offshore Oilfield Support Services before I moved on. Thus a quite tangential exposure.

As a professional, I salute the fact that you have been part of a team fighting a serious Oil fire in a tank farm many decades ago. Knowing a little about that; I can understand the resolute efforts that you and your team-mates must have put in at that time.

Thank you again Sir; for explaining the factors that attach to the Oil Exploration and Production Industry and how they impact the economies that surround our live. On a personal note; I am now attempting to work with other like-minded individuals and organisations towards the judicious use of non-conventional energy sources; albeit at a micro and ground-roots level. The possibilities therein seem to be extremely promising.

I am not an expert but would like to add two other fields that have produced decent amount of crude oil. One is Meyal that has produced around 36 million barrels and is still producing however on a smaller scale. Then there is Dhurnal field which has produced around 50 million barrels of oil till todate. Still producing small amount of oil.

We have huge oil and gas reserves in Sindh and Baluchistan. Question is, when we'll start using our resources for good. Poor governance, corrupt rulers and mis-management is everywhere in our sorry tale. Take Sandak Gold project as an example.

So who do you think can come in and be the "massiah" and cure all evil in Pakistan?? Please don't tell me IK. The guy can barely keep a mob together, forget about keeping an entire country with thousands of issues together. And the military doesn't know how to do oil exploration either, just to set the context.

But do name someone. By keep repeating the same problem over and over doesn't solve anything. Let's bring some substance out so the readers can try to understand who can help fix this mess!

BTW, in Pakistan's entire current portfolio of politicians, the best ones are already at work through votes from the people. And they've been doing a LOT of work without corruption at the higher level like it used to be the case in Pakistan. Let me know if you'd like to see a list of projects.

By the way, its not the reserve, Pakistan doesn't have a few thing in its favor yet:
1) O&G found at a proper depth. Extra drilling cost a LOT more, and in Pakistan's case, thousands of meters of extra drilling so if something would cost you $ 80.00 internally, you could pay $ 50.00 from the outside and get oil for much cheaper.

2) Quality of oil, if the fuel doesn't burn correctly and there is a lot of other chemical substances mixed in oil molecules, Pakistan doesn't have proper chemical deciphering plants in place to a degree it needs them, which would perform molecule synthesis to refine the oil and take other chemicals out.

3) Proper infrastructure and technology overall. The country is now making headway in this area, with older tech. You guys don't use SAR radars for O&G exploration, etc, along with other expensive equipment.

All the above pay a role in why certain projects are started and then stopped.

A 1000 barrels a day of crude dosnt sound large or significant. Sure it adds to our meagre oil production of 1 lac barrels a day which pales when compared to Saudi production of 1 million barrels a day.

I have been reading about "Large oil reserves found" for many years. Only fools can believe these stories.
