Old but relevant.

List of Hydropower Projects in KPK
By Mudassar on July 2, 2014
  • Atif Khan gets additional portfolio of energy and power
  • It was with Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Sikandar Hayat Sherpao.
  • Vacant since November 13, 2013 when PTI sacked QWP on corruption charges
  • According to budget documents, Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO) is operating four hydropower projects in Malakand, Swabi and Chitral districts with an installed capacity of 105 megawatts. The documents say that besides a reduction in power outages, these power stations are generating about Rs2 billion for the provincial kitty.
  • New PEDO Projects (to be completed soon):
    • 17-megawatt (MW) Ranolia hydropower project in Kohistan (in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank) to be completed by December 2014
    • 2.6 MW Machai project in Mardan (to be completed by August 2014)

Project Details - Electra Consultants it started in 2009 and has nothing to do with PTI govt . if KPK govt takes for such a small project 3 years ,
http://www.nepra.org.pk/Licences/Licence Application/Ranolia SHYDO (17 MW).PDF
It is a ADB financed project which has nothing to do with the performance of PTI govt , it started in 2010 and was supposed to be operational in 2014 .now still it is not complete despite 2 years of PTi govt and it is such a small project .
How PTI kpk govt is taking the credit for which it has got no contribution from financing to execution . If it can take 3 years for 16 +2.5 mwatts , it is peanuts as our demand is much more than that . If PTI really wants to do something , first do something and dont try to spread lies .

http://www.nepra.org.pk/Licences/Licence Application/Ranolia SHYDO (17 MW).PDF pls see the report (from page 17 onwards )of sarhad hydel power 2012 , in 2013 4 projects of about 105 mwts , phur , malakand , shishi , reshun were completed , while malachai 2.6 mwatts , renolia 17 mwatts and daral khawar 36 mwatts were inder construction with the funding of ADB , These were already supposed to be completed in 2014 . All the funding from ADB was arranged by previous govt and the execution was done by prevoius govt and has got nothing to do with current pti kpk govt . PTI has not done anything for power generation and has got no significant allocation for energy sector in 15 -16 budget .

how many such small projects made by PML N government in last 8 years in punjab with the help of ADB or WB or IMF ?? punjab is having best irrigation system with alot of sights for such small few mega watts plants even its very easy to make such projects in punjab due to its plain geography

.
Hahahah, 50,000 MW hydro is feasable yet these PTI idiots are targeting 6 MW dams for point scoring against PML-N.

Jahil jahil PTI

It usually goes unnoticed because such projects contribute little to provincial economy. The likes of Machai Hydel are suitable to provide uninterrupted electricity to single village of 1000-1500 medium sized households but not good enough to contribute significantly at national level.

In 5 years, our electricity demand may exceed 35,000 megawatt so our prime focus should be on mega projects such as Diamer-Bhasha, Dasu, Bunji, Neelum Jhelum and extension of Tarbela Dam etc. If we were to rely on small hydel projects only then we might need 10,000 machai hydel projects to overcome loadshedding in Pakistan, that's how insignificant it is at national level. But every MW counts and it would surely save us good amount in national exchequer.

Two hydel power projects including 2.6 megawatt Machai (Mardan) and 17 megawatt Ranolia (Kohistan) will complete by the end of the current financial year, said the White Paper of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa budget for financial year 2015-16.
Any contribution is welcome and I personally don't like spending time and effort to identify the deserving government for due credit but since PTI Leader has talked about it in that video, I just want to know how does it make sense to give the credit to present K-P government? Oh yes they thankfully did not stop the project, perhaps?

If you read the history of these projects you come to know that the feasibility study was conducted back in early 2000s, ADB funded these projects in 2009 and the construction work began in 2010 and was due to be completed in 2013. The projects got delayed as usual but the major work had already been completed before the K-P government tookover. It doesn't matter about the due date anyway as the projects were being funded by ADB and little contributions were made from the KPK government's resources.

There has been 15-20 small hydel power projects initiated during the PPP government and completed in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. There are more under construction projects due to be completed in 2016 and 2017. But these projects only takes a headline for a day since they are contributing little to National economy. We tend to ignore projects generating electricity below 20MW with water reserves of few thousand acre feet of land in agriculture friendly nation of Pakistan.

These are micro projects which were to be completed by Jun 2014. And most probably initiated by ANP government.

This year alone its 21KMW peak (Excluding industrial demand) so the real demand may clock somewhere between 23-25KMW.

Such projects are only feasible when constructed close to consumption source. Transferring this electricity to national grid would require an investment on transmission lines which may exceed the cost of the whole setting up. However, provincial government may be hesitant to provide them to local areas which may pose low bill payment risk.

3.6 MW/Billion PKR for these two projects.
And Nandipur with all the costs overruns still would yield 5.05 MW/Billion PKR.

Pmln didnt claim any hydro project either , it is PTI who is claimimg false ownership of hydro projects . Nutshell is PTI has done zero +zero+zero =zero.

How can you absolutely compare a Hydro project with coal project?

Coal projects should be one of the cheapest to make with higher cost of running and hydro are usually amongst the most expensive with cheapest cost of running

Its not a coal project, its a Combined Cycle thermal plant. Its built very close to GAPCO on purpose i.e. to minimize the distribution expense.

Nice hai..... hope 300 Small Dams also Gets Completed....
Waiting for Nooney Tunes regarding their electricity "promises" :D

You need not to debate with these Nooney heads. They are clueless regarding the world at large. Our country generates almost all its electricity from hydropower. And we are are an exporter nation of this environment friendly electric power:D
Norway has an open electric market, integrated with the other Nordic countries. Export and import is routine over the direct power links to Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. The market is handled by NASDAQ OMX Commodities Europe and Nord Pool Spot.

Oh yes that is, I had forgotten... But my point still stands valid. Comparing combined cycle thermal plant to hydro is like comparing rice with tomatoes.

Just grow up boy , KPK govt has no 3000 mwatts generation , it is terbella dam which was not built by kpk govt , it was built by federal govt and the whole nation paid for that . it is a national asset not a kpk asset .
@Leader was referring to power generated in KPK and in no way claimed that generated power to be birth right of KPK only as he mentioned since it goes to National Grid, therefore, they dont have the prior right on mega projects. No province was allowed to generate power on own until recently when PPP govt gave more rights to provinces on generating power of own.

KP to complete two hydel projects this month | Business Recorder

Two hydel power projects including 2.6 megawatt Machai (Mardan) and 17 megawatt Ranolia (Kohistan) will complete by the end of the current financial year, said the White Paper of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa budget for financial year 2015-16.

The Energy and Power Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through its attached wing Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO) is operating four hydropower stations in Malakand, Swabi and Chitral that are generating 105 megawatts of electricity. Besides, power generation revenue of Rs 2.5 billion is also generated for the province through these power stations.

The department is working on conducting feasibility studies and construction of additional hydropower stations to increase power generation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PEDO has conducted the pre-feasibility studies of 10 raw sites and these sites have been advertised for award to private sector.

Under Action Plan 2012-22, the organisation has started work on six hydel projects with installed capacity of 252 MW, ie 84 MW Gorkin Matiltan (Swat), 36 MW Daral Khwar (Swat), 41 MW Koto (Lower Dir), 11.8MW Karora (Shangla), 10.2 MW Jabori (Mansehra), 69 MW Lawi (Chitral).

Tendering phase of execution process is underway for 3 sites out of the six, ie 10.2 MW Jabori (Mansehra), 11.8 MW Karora (Shangla), 40.8 MW Koto (Lower Dir).

The paper said that various investment proposals are under consideration of provincial government for three projects with cumulative capacity of 426 MW, approved by ECNEC on December 31, 2013, on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode which include 150 MW Sharmai (Dir), 144 MW Shusghai-Zhendoli (Chitral) and 132 MW Shogo Sin (Chitral).

Similarly, feasibility studies of the fifteen (15) hydro power projects have been completed and execution of 356 mini/micro hydel projects of 10kW-500kW capacity each has been started in Malakand and Hazara Divisions with 20% cost contribution by the community. The feasibility studies of 141 sites have been completed and construction work on 41 projects started. Out of which 20 projects will be completed by the end of July 2015.

Furthermore, in order to harness alternative energy resources for power generation work on solar energy projects has been started. Under this project 20 villages with a total of 5670 houses will be electrified through solar standalone home system in Central, Southern and Northern Districts of the province.

Under the plan, each household will be provided with two solar panel, two 100 Ampere batteries, two fans, three LED Lights and one mobile charger. To promote industries and economic growth, the provincial government has decided to divert power from Pehur Hydel Power Station to Gadoon Industrial Estate, and to establish industrial estate near generation units to provide cheap energy to the industries. In this regard, a consultancy was awarded to look into all available options. The consultancy report has been received and action is underway.

Also, two days ago Asad Umer hinted how Federal Govt is trying to sabotage or delay power projects of KPK govt. Watch this video:

@Leader @pkuser2k12 @Horus @Jango @TankMan @NaMaloom @WAJsal @Pukhtoon @ghilzai @Jzaib @Bratva @syedali73 @Bilal. @notorious_eagle @Arsalan @ajpirzada @Aether @Norwegian @SBD-3 @Muhammad Omer @Death Adder @Shamain @Akheilos

Brother of Asad Umer Mr. Zubair Chairman privatization Commission challenged KPK government that they not have submitted single feasibility Report in Nepra.(NEPRA is National Electric Power Regulatory Authority )Independent body to regularize the Power Production.

So claims of Asad Umer and Jhangir Tareen are just Accusations!
in Last 24 Months KPK Government not submitted single feasibility report of any power Project, this year they allocated the funds, and after allocation, defiantly they will submit the report in Nepra for Approval, and after that Approval WAPDA will able to purchase the electricity and put the power in National Grid.

Please dont think Pakistani Nation is fool any more.
