Wtf? Pakistani national anthem is in farsi and not urdu. Never heard of this, this is bizzare.

Why didn't pak just adopt farsi as the main language?

Yes but its intelligible by urdu speakers (well most of it atleast)

Actually it is Dari, which was the official language of Pakistan region before the British.

Many people in Pakistan are in favor of reintroducing Dari, it would bring us closer to our cousins in Afghanistan too and make the latter shayri of Allama Iqbal easier to understand.

Interesting. Is there any ongoing plan to change it as Iran is perceived as enemy?

I for one hate our national anthem: No, not because it is written by an Indian or a Hindu but because it is too effing slow.

Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran share the same Iranic origin, along with Kurds, so why should we abandon our ancestral language?

Urdu of Pakistan is heavily influenced by Dari. At higher level, it is basically a dialect of Dari.

Indians took out most Dari, Arabic, and Turkic words from Urdu to make Hindi.

Actually, in east Pakistan there were two national Anthems in Bengali. One starts with,

Urao, urao urao aji qaumi nishan
Chand tara shada ar shobujo nishan
Urao-----------------

Another was,
Pakistan Zindabad, Pakistan zindabad, Pakistan zindabad Zindabad
Purobo Banglar Shyamolimay Poncho Nodir tire Oronimoi
Dhushor Shindhur Moru Shaharai Zhanday Jagiche Azad
Paksian Zindabad----------------------------------------

Then, Ayub Khan came to power in 1958 and sometime after wards he introduced the present Pakistani national Anthem which is in Persian and the meaning not really understood. For your information I am a good singer, later I learned to sing these Anthems. But, unfortunately I cannot sing the present BD Anthem that well.

It was a nationalistic poem written at a time when Bengal was divided into two in 1905. Someone (don't remember, may be some Mustafa) stole the tune/melody from a Kolkata film acted by Kaberi Bose and Uttam Kumar and the BAL brats in 1971 Kolkata made it our national Anthem.

Dwijendralal Roy song would have been better. I wonder, what will be the reaction of our great BAL asset @Atlas for telling the truth. He will tag me Pakistani but will not tag Mujib who ended his 7 March speech with Joy Pakistan. This is history.

Dhono dhanya pushpa bhora...

Yup I remember our conversation with @Joe Shearer regarding this some time ago.

We might fight here on this forum over silly things and call each other names...

... but I don't need to tell you.... your land is blessed one:

shokol desher rani shey je
amaar janmabhumi....

That line at end where it expresses the last wish...

Amar ei deshete jonmo jeno

ei deshete mori

It evokes such deep feeling my friend....past any words.

You are right that this was a full worthy candidate to be BD anthem....maybe over amar shonar bangla.

These are nice songs no doubt but these are not ideal for national anthem. The national anthem should be pumping adrenaline through your veins and therefore need to be fast paced.

Yes, you are right, that is why Jono Gono Mono is better than others; but I have to confess that, opening these posts without warning about what was in them, to read that line Dhonyo Dhanye Pushpe Bhora, and then read

Aamar ei deshete jonmo jeno
Ei deshetei mori

Sokhe jol bhoira gyasilo. Thaki to Pandob-borjito deshe, aar kon din Bangla'r mati, Bangla'r shobuj math dekhte pamu jani na.

I get that side of it too for sure.

Personally I have always felt Indian national anthem should have been "saare jahan se accha"...it has much better pace and structure and sound to it, you can make a faster paced one easily etc (like lataji's version)....lyrics are sound and direct. I guess politically the problem was the author.... sad legacy of our region comes in way again.

Which song/poem do you have in mind for BD anthem btw? Maybe a action-oriented one from your Kazi nazrul? There are some faster paced ones there for sure.

Frankly, for that purpose, it is difficult to beat one of Kobi Nozrul's marching songs. There is NOTHING like them in South Asia.

Nilgiri Sahib eto shob shikhlen koth'theke?

Yeah it didn't quite sit right with me either as I was about to hit post.....but figured thats really the line that tugs heart string the most for me...it is kind of the final line in the song for a reason I suppose....it connects the whole thing up.....and it sounds so good in Bengali.....what a language you folks have.

Nilgiri Sahib eto shob shikhlen koth'theke?

I am learning more from good BD friends I have...close brothers but also general friends too.

As time progresses, the silly subjects we dabbled in prime of youth recede (esp as world doesnt seem to want to change that fast)...and we end up progressing to where the biggest things really are.....those things of sheer permanence.

Shall I let you into a secret?

We are five parts in one - Barendra, Rarh, Banga, Samatata and Harikela. Excepting Barendra, each part has its own collection of very similar dialects. So what we call 'West Bengali', derisively, 'ghoti', is more or less the three or four dialects spoken in Rarh; our own Dhaka dialect, and its variants, from Faridpur, from Barisal, places like those, were all Banga. Chatgaiya developed in Samatata; and Sylheti in Harikela. Infer what you will from that.
