JF-17 Thunder performing during Dubai Air Show 2017

... I've seen the thing making crazy rolls and loops several times and know how agile the damn thing is. What they show at the airshow is a cutshort thing at best.
Imagine the consequences on its market if something went wrong during the qirshow, it's still a new entrant in the market.

I get what you are trying to say i.e. it (JF-17) is not being allowed to perform to it's true potential in public.

But this can also be taken as a lack of confidence (??) on the platform's robustness ... that a platform that first entered service in 2007/2008 (a decade ago) ... is still not allowed to perform as freely as other platforms like the F-16 and the JAS-39 Gripen. The Viper and the Gripen were giving it their all in air shows 10 years after entering service.

My personal opinion is that the Thunder's field performance was never planned to exceed that of the Viper. Improved sensors, avionics and advanced medium range and short range munitions are going to be it's forte. For a main stay type, that is not bad for an air force in this region.

However, a high-end type is needed that would take up that mantle from the Viper in the near future.

Just my humble two cents.

That's a bold and yet vague statement. Unless you know about each aspect of JF17s maneuveribility, flight control laws and pros of the flcc, you should restrain yourself from making such sweeping remarks.

I'm not an expert on it (but might get a chance to fly it in the near future as a junior), just speaking from what I know from other pilots who have flown both F-16 and JF-17.....if it comes as negative to you, I apologise for that but will not restrain myself. Cheers !!!

Strange I thought the JF17 Made some really sharp agressive turns was quite impressed the Pilot was quite good who was flying it

The Gripen fella was just doing lame slow turns felt like he was half drunk the plane would twist slowly then he would turn

The slow speed fly by was interesting it seems Thunder matched Gripen quite easily

Both displays were unique. The Gripen test pilot was demonstrating the slow speed handling characteristics of the jet.

In Airshows, there are a lot of rules to be observed, ceiling max, min alt level, limits on how far from the end of runway. In flying terms, it is very limited "box." AND barely 5mins to do your show, Get In, Get Out.

To judge any aircraft, on the basis of an Air Show performance would be extremely unfair.

Apart from performance the aircraft should have been also prepared for a nice polished look for an international show. The hydraulic leak sign beneath the aircraft shows it's not controllable or not taken care of.
Secondly should have displayed the bird with IFR probe and on static bird with new laser pods, if they are ever purchased. There was no new attraction for new customers for what we have now.
