JF-17 Thunder performing during Dubai Air Show 2017

Is that a vertical loop starting 5:08?

@Knuckles that is no Saturn V rocket IMHO. It didn't even have to open its parachute!

Runway is pretty long there at DWC otherwise you should see it landing at Peshawar. And that looks more like a barrel roll.

Incorrect. Its JIT paralleloplex processing.........
The JF-17 demo is a little more restrictive as it does not have the care-free handling like the F-16 does in comparison.

I think i have talked to you regarding project development in our recent conversation. FC1 will takeover the overall multirole capabiltiy. FGF will be a true departure from multirole philosophy. Therefore we will see different variants for FGF. We will talk about FGF turbines as things become more apparent. This is now a work in progress.

@Oscar @messiach I might be misreading the situation, but is the PAF basically shifting development resources now to the 5th-gen fighter (FGF)? There's no mention of a JF-17 variant after the Block-III, and the PAF basically dismissed any thought of enlarging the JF-17 airframe. Are they now preparing to move away from the Thunder (at least in terms of development) and expediting to the FGF?

Interestingly, early in 2017 Mikoyan had floated the idea of a lightweight single engine 5th-gen fighter using a new version of the RD-33 turbofan engine.

Whatever you say so boss. I'm speaking from a visual perspective in addition to reports from pilots who have flown both the F-16 and JF-17. I still think it requires some more time, the electronics are superb but performance and handling characteristics will take some time to reach the F-16 level.

I am interested in the B variant.....and it looks better too. Better tail for starters. And I hope they have the right people for flight testing, normally the test pilots from PAF lack the engineering knowledge at the undergraduate level hence the big gap between engineers and pilots.

Have I missed something? What FGF turbine? Isn't FGF russky paper plane?

The F-16 is an excellent design and has had over 30 years of development and one of the key elements to its design is that it can be upgraded without significant changes to the overall aircraft. The JF-17 is relatively new....so time will tell how far it will go. And yes, they need to slightly work a little more on the demo side (JF-17). At this point in time, the JF-17 is not close to the present-day F-16.....let there be no confusion in that. Sometimes national pride throws us off reality. Give the JF-17 time (if there's flexible thinking involved), and it will mature into new platforms.
there is no confusion, f-16 is better overall aircraft, but we are talking about strictly aerodynamic performance
which is not going to change much for jf-17

the right people are already involved.
I hope so too. As the last "test pilot" that gave us a presentation was a complete shitshow. Then again, they've moved on to get others for the job.

Yes, i cannot talk of our interaction with test pilots but regarding its nature is a very tough demanding post. This reminds of FC1 first flight when all stood in profound silence while FC1 taxied away.

Good points, unaware of the Gripen but the F-16 in general is more agile than the JF-17. The UAE F-16 demo is more choreographed for demonstrating the performance capabilities of the aircraft. The JF-17 demo is a little more restrictive as it does not have the care-free handling like the F-16 does in comparison.

That's a bold and yet vague statement. Unless you know about each aspect of JF17s maneuveribility, flight control laws and pros of the flcc, you should restrain yourself from making such sweeping remarks.

I tell u something, I've seen the thing making crazy rolls and loops several times and know how agile the damn thing is, at Masroor. What they show at the airshow is a cutshort thing at best.
Imagine the consequences on its market if something went wrong during the airshow, it's still a new entrant in the market.
