JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 5]

JF-17's airframe is constructed from aluminium alloys to keep both costs and weight down while providing high structural strength. High strength steel and titanium alloys are partially adopted in some critical areas. Plans are in place to reduce weight further by increasing the use of carbon composite materials in the airframe.n the fuselage area..and in Block 2 incorporate greater use of composite materials in the airframe to reduce weight

Will there be IRST or AESA on block 2 or not .. ?? And what about SD-10B and WS-13 in BLOCK-2 ...
Thanks in advance..

it's not PESA but MSA radar.
@Oscar @sancho
i heard that current power plant on jf 17 (RD 93)can't support the power needs of AESA is that true ?

Current power plant can support AESA, problem is heating issues related to AESA and no cooling mechanism can be introduced due to small size of cone.

Vixen 500 was offered to JF-17.

A noob question - Can't it be air-cooled by letting the air come in from the outside !

Is it block-1 or block-2.. ??

. .
the aircraft shape is good but in my opinion if pac design block 2 wings like sukhoi aircraft it will b awsome in looks too..what do u say

can't be so
you probably are reffering to SU-30
its twin engine so wing spam, tail and inlets can't be like that
and JFT has its own designed LERIX and DSI etc
you can hope to see JFT its own awsome shape……

No,,, let's take analogy of car engine, Air is not sufficient to keep it cool, so we inject car oil in it to keep it cool. Similarly we need a coolant fluid to keep AESA radar cool.

@mafiya i think i disagree over it. You cant compare a car with a fighter, whose flight speed is never less then 500kph. At height of 30,000 feet, the outside temperature itself is -40c. The Vixen-1000E AESA Radar by Selex, design for Gripen-NG is both liquid and air-cooled. Check out this link for its specifications

The size of Gripen-NG and JF-17 is quite the same, and due to compact design of Vixen-1000E, even US is considering it for its F-16s. F-16 being having a very small cone.

We can not get get Vixen Aesa for JF-17. We don't have money to procure western radars. One of the reasons french deal fell through was economics, second was indian pressure.

@Yzd Khalifa

Any updates regarding what the Iranians "won't like."
It's been past the initial week.
Or are something's better not known.?

Not correct, infact the issue has little to do with power... it has to do with space for cooling.

things are not clear..[/B].

Au'Contrare Janab.. they are very clear. There is NO IRST system on the block-2.
The only physical difference in block-2 will be a fixed IFR probe...the other differences will be in the avionics and that too will be mostly software.
Block-2 will be exactly the same as block-1 apart from the addition of the IFR probe. New software and refinements to the Radar, EW suite are the real changes and these changes will carry backwards to all block-I aircraft.

The Saudis haven't announced what the new Arms deal package includes ,unlike the Israelis and the UAE. I can only say that the new arms deal will dramatically enhance the Saudi defense capability. Pakistan too will receive some amazing stuff from the US and the UAE is going to pay it for our best friend ever :pakistan: :smitten:

The Block II JF-17 is believed to have AESA radars similar to those observed on the J-10B.The integrated avionics, sensors and EW suite is entirely Chinese and is believed to be at the level of Europe's..

The structural changes needed to convert the Block Is to Block II standard are significant, suggesting considerable changes to the revised edition. The following are believed to be some of the key changes:

1. AESA radar

2. Comprehensive upgrades for low RCS profile including cockpit glass, RAM paint, refined structure, completely new nose structure for AESA, significant increase in the use of composites and refueling probe.

3. Awaited integration of A-Darter missiles from Brazil / South Africa with HOBS capability and South African HMS possibly Archer?

4. The BVR missile is the SD-10B which has been found more than a match for the AMRAAM-120 C5s. An unknown Meteor class missile is in the works beyond the SD-10Bs.The SD-10Bs are dual mode and capable of passive attack, this and other design input was provided by the PAF to China. They have an increased range of 15 more kilometers over the older version. The JF-17 Block II has significantly improved ECM capabilities and has some capabilities similar to the Rafale..

mid 2013 is around the corner.....hope you are right...!

Well you know pal in pakistan nothin is 100% Sure! anytime anything could be happen! so just hope for the best!

in Block 2 there will be completely new nose structure will be made for AESA!

.
Composite material increase should be the top priority even more than engine upgrade.
because of the weight indeed is decreased by 700kg.it will significantly boost either the payload or twr because of lower weight JFT

Stop spreading rumours, blk 2 will not get AESA
The sooner you guyz except this fact, the better it is.

There is no AESA radar for jf-17 in china YET.
And European options are too expensive to exercise.
