I would not be entirely sure, the PAF has been in direct contact with the Russians and works with the manufacturer to improve MTBO rates. You are basing MTBO on the old RD-33 series while the current RD-93(which draws upon the improvements in quality and maintenance of the RD-33 series 3 and MK improvements) has a MTBO of 4000 hours.
Any reference for that information please?
There was an interview recently with AC Khalid Mehmood and he mentioned PAF has passed 3000hrs w/o maintenance.
The Klimov website has the information on RD-33 MK.. The RD-33 series 3 information is based on various news reports(now only found on quoted blogs but a simple search for RD-33 series-3 service life will do. Again, these are probably manufacture quoted figures but general peacetime usage might be close to that figure.
The GE-404 information is available in the manufacturers brochure or if you have the time a study by NPS , Montrey on the costs for F/A-18 Maintenance which details the MTBO for various sections of the GE-404.

But this is not the engine currently powering the JF-17, is it?
It is the RD-33 series 3 in RD-93 form. The series 3 was specifically updated for lifecycle improvement. The MK series brings with it performance improvements.
So is it a foregone conclusion that these newer and improved engines will be installed in the next Blocks of JF-17s just because they are available from the manufacturer?

Yes, what the PAF has done has bypassed the Chinese in dealing with the Russians. The Russians, regardless of all the hooplah.. were/are happy to sell.
That is smart thinking on part of PAF then.
They are not that dumb after all?
Maybe we can use the good will with Russkis to acquire AL-31F/+ motors for J-10Bs, if thats still on the plate?
