The Japanese government has officially protested against China’s “suspicious” unilateral exploration activity in the East China Sea, which Tokyo considers a violation of a bilateral understanding reached almost a decade ago.
In 2008 Japan and China struck an initial agreement to jointly develop the natural resources in the vicinity of Japan-controlled, China-claimed Senkaku/Daioyu Islands in the East China Sea, which Beijing had already began to develop by that time.

The 2008 deal also envisioned erecting a mutually recognized maritime boundary between Japanese and Chinese exclusive economic zones (EEZ) off the disputed islands. However, establishing a demarcation line proved difficult in subsequent negotiations which have since been suspended.

China does not recognize the ‘median line’ Japan has drawn and continues to increase its extraction activity near the disputed waters. Reports suggest that so far, Beijing is only operating drilling platforms on its side, but Japan is worried that Chinese activity would cross the ‘median’.

Tokyo fears that China could siphon gas from areas technically claimed by Japan. Amid the increased activity by China in the region, Tokyo officially lodged a protest late last month, top government officials revealed Tuesday.

“We confirmed that China is engaged in some kind of activity by stopping mobile drilling ships” near the ‘median line’, said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga.

“It is extremely regrettable that China is unilaterally continuing its development activity,” Suga noted, according to the Japan Times.

The Foreign Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, echoed Suga’s words urging China to “stop development activities” in the disputed region where the “mid-ocean boundary between Japan and China is not demarcated.”

Amid the ongoing territorial dispute between China and Japan, Beijing has repeatedly reminded Tokyo that it has “inherent” sovereignty over the group of uninhabited islands in the East China Sea. China has also vowed to protect its territorial integrity and national interests in the region, disregarding American security guarantees to its ally Tokyo.

“We will never allow any people, organization or political party to split any part of Chinese territory out of the country at any time, in any form,” Chinese President, Xi Jinping said at an Army Day celebration Tuesday. “No one should expect us to swallow the bitter fruit that is harmful to our sovereignty, security or development interests.”

US ain't doing sh!t to our neighbor, VN got punched in the face by our war declaration if they do not stop, now JP got slapped in the face. And HINDUS keep living in denial that China has no balls LOL. Soon it's gonna be India's turn if they don't run for it while the opportunity is still open to flee.

China peaceful rise seems unstoppable.

Japan scrapped the 2008 deal when it nationalized the Diaoyu Islands. They can't depend on it just because it would be convenient now.

Senkaku was nationalized because China started territorial violations. If China did not start those territorial violations, then the Senkaku islands would still be in Japanese private hands. One step after another, China continues a path of aggression that is supported by their ill-informed population. Japan's call to the 2008 agreement is a call to rollback the increasing tensions. Japanese people care about not behaving aggressively, so even if futile, they make the call to it.

Why Chinese are behaving like a local goon? They should not lower down their aggressive attitude and concentrate on living peacefully with others.

In 2008, we also agreed to keep the status quo in Diaoyu dispute so cut the bullshit out with the talk. Fact is we drill in our line of EEZ in which the Japanesese draw up so there should be no concern whatsoever. We will not oppose if they drill in their side of the EEZ.

Lol that's a bad excuse to nationalized Diaoyu Island, China can nationalized the island too to get even if we really want since Japan has no legitimate right over this island, historically it belong to us, I don't want to go over with you over this issue.

I notice a bad habit on these forums where a person adds an "lol" or a "ROFL" when they really know better but just to give an impression of confidence. But of course there is genuine "lol" or "ROFL" as there is sometimes really baseless things said and posters should not feel shame for responding with lol or ROFL as we wouldn't want the forums to become dry of personality:-)

China produced maps in the 1950s and the 1960s that showed the name Senkaku on them. They are considered as part of the Ryukyu islands. China put its claim on them in 1971 Historical reasons is just an empty excuse to push an expansionist agenda.

I bet you don't want to talk to me about it since we already have in the Japan Defense thread, and you lost. I'm rather impressed that the posts didn't get censored. That is why I think your "lol" was not genuine but just buffing up the chest to make an impression of confidence.
