Jamaran-2

TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran launched a domestically built destroyer in the Caspian Sea on Sunday, its first deployment of a major warship in the oil-rich region, state TV reported.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inaugurated the guided missile destroyer Jamaran-2 in the port city of Anzali, about 250 kilometers (150 miles) northwest of Tehran.

He said the deployment aimed to bolster peace and friendship in the region. "The destroyer is there to meet those who want to jeopardize the security of surrounding nations," he said, without elaborating.

There are multiple disputes between the nations that surround the Caspian – Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan – on how the inland sea should be divided.

After final tests, the report said, Jamaran-2 will join Iran's naval fleet in the sea in coming months.

The 1,400-ton destroyer, which has a helicopter landing pad, is 94 meters (yards) long and can cruise at 30 knots. It is equipped with surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles as well as anti-aircraft batteries and sophisticated radar and communications terminals, the report said.

Iran launched a previous version of the Jamaran destroyer in 2010 in the Persian Gulf.

Since 1992, Iran has been building a self-sufficient military, reportedly producing its own jet fighters, tanks, missiles and light submarines as well as torpedoes.

Ahmadinejad said that the West has learned from Iran's technical expertise that the country's nuclear capabilities cannot be eliminated.

Do Iranians really think they can take on west with these kind of jokes?

That's a naive statement. So what do you suggest? No one sells us weapons, does it mean we should sit and wait for someone to come and kill us? Dying standing is way better than living on your knees, something many countries in the world are doing right now.
Besides,it has nothing to do with confronting NATO. This ship belongs to Iran's Caspian sea fleet.

Instead of calling corvettes as destroyers, you can admit that this ship is a 1500 tonnes corvette. Then nobody will make this kind of statements.

My point has nothing to do with what you said.Whether it's a corvette, destroyer or a spaceship, that guy was saying something else, because no country in the world can stand against NATO forces, it doesn't mean others should just sit and watch.

Oh... really? You really should be, that is if you understand the meaning of sanction and espionage!

By the way how are things in the south pole? :D

Yes, really. There isn't anything new compared to the Jamaran-2, which has only a single interesting new feature i.e. the main radar.

My south pole is just fine.

thats what I said..there is no fixed rule about classification..In India,Corvettes are as large as 2500-3000 tonnes..

Kamorta is what is calles a light frigate (i.e. large multipurpose corvette but small for a frigate)

@Penguin : Long time no see, I hope you're doing alright !

Mate, how would you, very briefly, compare this (the Jamaran 2) to the F-22P of the Pakistan Navy ?

Much Obliged !

Gotta work to pay them bills ;-)

F22P is larger displacement, has a larger number of ready SAMs and SSMs, helicopter hangar facilities, CIWS. Electronics is more difficult to say, as little is known about the Iranian systems (even less than about Chinese systems). Iranian hull is still essentially the basic Vosper SAAM design, which is a precursor to the UK Amazon / Type 21 design (used by PN).

Do we build this ships to take west with ?
do other navies around the world build these class of ships to take over other countries with ?

your question is inherently wrong . by the way Jamaran-2 is stationed in Mazandaran Sea and I assure you you never see a US fleet in that see for the next 1000 year. that ships is to protect our interests in that region from specially one country that have some baseless claim on our territory there .and by the way let tell you before hand that country is not Russia .

well the F-22P have a displacement of more than twice of Jamaran-2 it's not a fair comparison .

The Caspian Sea is an endorheic basin (it has no outflows) and is bounded to the northwest by Russia, to the west by Azerbaijan, to the south by Iran, to the southeast by Turkmenistan, and to the northeast by Kazakhstan.

That is the point exactly. Larger displacement > greater endurance, capability.
