What's new

Its official , Pakistan Constitution is suspended

I always thought Houston was mostly folks from Karachi and Chicago were more northern Pakistani. East coast felt like mostly Northern Pakistanis aka Punjabis. Growing up, I thought California seems to have the more attractive girls given how rich the community out there has been from the get go.
I am from Karachi living in Maryland on East Coast

The figures in Wikipedia are not official but that’s the best I could find. Regarding the breakdown of where in Pakistan they came from it is hard to judge easily. Pakistanis in North America tend to be upper-middle-class and very uniform in culture, so in any given gathering it is hard to figure out where they came from unless you ask.

Yeah I guess that’s true. I suppose I may be a bit biased because of who I bump into in Houston. Most people I meet over here genuinely don’t care about ethnicity. Beyond if the person is Pakistani. My extended american family stateside has married into punjabis too btw.

What, in your opinion, is the fraction of second generation and beyond i.e., children and grandchildren of immigrants that marries non-Pakistanis? I see it is quite high among East Asians.

That's true, upper middle class Pakistan has it's own culture lol
I met a Sindhi Pakistani at target and I couldn't tell who he was till we got into nitty gritty and told me of his journey of working and doing MBA from local university at the same time
Smart guy, his sister was working for state government and was an actuarial scientist by profession

It caught me by surprise as too how progressive Sindhi society is cause even in my family most women are highly educated but we don't allow our women folks to work or alteast it's discouraged
Without feudalism and in extension bhuttos, Sky's the limit IMO

I’m seeing it more now than before. Most marriages I’ve attended are Pakistani-Pakistani but I’m seeing kids marrying non-Pakistani Muslims, Indian and Arab, which is still okay. But I’ve seen young Pakistanis marry Whites, Blacks, Hindus etc. Maybe 20%.

It may not be popular to say it but I’m seeing too many Pakistani girls marring Hindus. That’s just my personal experience and may not be common.

Karachi has been agitating against the faujis for decades and all they ever got was a big fat bamboo while the rest of the country sat and watched.

Karachi went against Ayub Khan and he moved the capital to GHQ in Pindi.

Today Karachi has ended up with a fauji-wadera alliance shoving Zardari’s rule down Karachi’s throat.

The city has lost the vast bulk of its most educated business and professional classes who’ve given up and left the country. A big proportion of Pakistanis in the US are from the city.

I think that people in Karachi have given up.
True.

Karachiites protested against Ayub Khan. There was a strong support for Fatima Jinnah in Karachi.

PPP raped Karachi while establishment looked on or in some cases enabled it.

The MQM for all their terrorism knew that federal government was not giving Karachi its due share. Be it finances, census etc.

The intelligentsia had seen this coming. They had the foresight to do a runner to other countries since the 70s.

Look at PTI’s Karachi chapter. Its a disaster. And IK has been shuttling between Lahore and Islamabad. While Karachi continues to be pillaged.

There have been many rulers who’ve been disastrous for Pakistan but if there was a competition for the worst I would nominate Bhutto.

He’s the one who lost the elections and didn’t accept it, causing the loss of East Pakistan. Then he turned around and destroyed West Pakistan as well. He had a special hatred for Karachi. He nationalized industry, banks, educational institutes, even schools, and stuffed them with hoosh PPP jialas, destroying them all. Imposing the quota system, still in force 50 years later, led to lowered quality in federal and provincial bureaucracies. His legacy is Zardari and the queer Billo Rani. Bhutto and his leftovers have totally destroyed Karachi and turned it into a huge garbage dump.

My father was a gov. official. He put us on a plane in the late 70s and told us that there’s no future for us in this country and we should never come back. We didn’t accept it at that time, but he was correct.

Supreme court must remember this quote when dealing with this bullahit tomorrow morning.
" First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."
If they don't take a stand then the mafia would come for them next time.

Some of the SC judges are part of the establishment cabal.

The establishment does not consist only of Generals.
