The blast was so powerful that the windowpanes of nearby buildings broke down. The blast was heard over a distance of a kilometer. The PTV and PM House are also reported to have been harmed. The blast caused to fell the nearby trees.

Soon after the blast, the ambulances arrived on the spot.

The blast caused blaze at the top storey of the hotel, where thick smokes are being seen billowing from the hotel.

The sources said the blast is suicide in nature; however, the officials said nothing could be said about the nature of the blast. According to media reports, an explosive-laden vehicle blew up near Marriot Hotel.

According to eye-witnesses, there are large number of injured lying around.

The security personnel cordoned off the whole area around the blast site near Marriot Hotel.

ISLAMABAD: At least 24 people were killed, including foreigners and scores others injured, many of them seriously, when an explosives laden truck rammed into Marriot Hotel here on Saturday.

Over 50 people have been brought to the local hospitals.

The powerful explosion caused fire in many parts of the hotel besides damaging the buildings around the hotel.

Emergency has been declared in the hospitals of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The Marriott in Islamabad is a favorite place for foreigners to stay and gather, and it has previously been targeted by militants.

Ambulances rushed to the scene, where a fire also burned, smoke hovered and the carcasses of vehicles were scattered. Windows in buildings hundreds of meters away were damaged.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, and its exact cause was unclear. But Pakistan, a U.S. ally in the war on terror, has faced a wave of militant violence in recent weeks following army-led offensives against insurgents in its border regions, though the capital has avoided most of the bloodshed.

According to eye-witnesses, there are large number of injured lying around. At least 25 people including foreigners were brought to Polyclinic hospital. Whereas sources were claming death of 40 persons in the blast while over 100 were injured.

The security personnel cordoned off the whole area around the blast site near Marriot Hotel. After the blast emergency has been imposed in the hospitals in Islamabad and Rawalpind.

Security has been intensified throughout the country.

Bomb rocks Islamabad, foreigners among 32 dead


ISLAMABAD (updated on: September 20, 2008, 20:29 PST): A car bomb caused a huge explosion outside the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad on Saturday and Aaj television station said at least 32 people had been killed and dozens injured.

A reporter at the scene told Aaj TV that as many as 200 people were feared to be inside the building.

Television images showed flames and smoke pouring out of the hotel and bodies being carried away.

"The explosion happened as a car reached the barricade outside the hotel," a senior police official said, adding that it appeared to have been a suicide attack.

A witness said he could see fires in at least two places in the hotel and at least 20 cars parked on the street outside had been destroyed.

Television pictures later showed flames spreading to other parts of the 290-room hotel, located close to the city centre and very popular with tourists.

Witnesses reported that ceilings in the hotel lobby and dining area had collapsed. The attack came soon after President Asif Ali Zardari, had made his first address to a joint session of parliament, pledging that Pakistan would not tolerate any infringement of its territory in the name of the fight against militants.

I was just watching CNN news and the this indeed shocked me. it's in islamabad, and a top class hotel where traders and celebrities may gather.

Alas Neo they are trying to handel the internal ones while the alians are having a field day here and there.

Same is for US.

US and the West had tried to maintain base for these people in Pakistan and Afghanistan and at the moment they are repeating the same tactic of pushing the suicide bombers to Pakistan and engaging them with Pakistan so that they could not reach US but the 9/11 had proved that US can not survive by helping terrorist activities.

Same goes for India. At the moment you guys are providing them IED that is being used in these attacks.
Vehicles full of IED being rammed into buildings by terrorists here killing innocent people.

Thats a very India centric opinion about Pakistan, one I've seen and refuted many times before.

First of all not Pakistan but USA and UK abused Islam to get recruits from all over the world to fight Jihad against the Sovjets. CIA and MI5 were actively involved in sending terrorists to Afghanistan and set up training capms in Pakistan.
Secondly the socalled 'illegal activities' only become illegal when they've served USA and her allies to reach their objectives.

On the second note, I hope your government will take your advice wisely that 'illegal activities is not helpful in the long term'.
