It is because of Awami League's anti-Islam policies that make people radical. This happened already in Brahmanbaria and with this provocation by that Dr. Abdur Razzaq BAL, people will be more radicalized and communal harmony will break down as a result.

Obaidul Qader, the Secretary General of Awami League, denied any possibility of a constitutional change in Islam as the State language. It is good to have a person from Noakhali to be the new SG of AL. People there are all extremely dovoted Muslims. He is quite different from the former one, who was a heavy alcoholic.

রাষ্ট্রধর্ম ইসলাম পরিবর্তনের কোনো চিন্তাভাবনা সরকারের বা দলের নেই বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন আওয়ামী লীগের সাধারণ সম্পাদক এবং সড়ক পরিবহন ও সেতুমন্ত্রী ওবায়দুল কাদের। আজ রোববার বিকেলে আওয়ামী লীগের সভানেত্রীর রাজনৈতিক কার্যালয়ে সাংবাদিকদের এক প্রশ্নের জবাবে ওবায়দুল কাদের এ মন্তব্য করেন।
সাংবাদিকেরা জানতে চান যে ক্ষমতাসীন আওয়ামী লীগের সভাপতিমণ্ডলীর সদস্য ও সাবেক মন্ত্রী আবদুর রাজ্জাক বলেছেন, সময়-সুযোগ পেলে সংবিধান থেকে রাষ্ট্রধর্ম ইসলাম তুলে দেওয়া হবে। এ ব্যাপারে মতামত জানতে চাইলে সেতুমন্ত্রী ওবায়দুল কাদের বলেন, ‘হঠাৎ করে কেন এ প্রশ্ন এল, এটা তো জানি না। সম্ভবত এটা তাঁর (আবদুর রাজ্জাক) ব্যক্তিগত মতও হতে পারে। সংবিধান সংশোধন হয়েছে, সংবিধান সংশোধন কমিটি দীর্ঘদিন অংশীজনদের সঙ্গে আলাপ-আলোচনা করে জাতীয় সংসদে বিষয়টি মীমাংসিত হয়েছে। এটা নিয়ে কোনো প্রশ্ন নেই। আমাদের সরকার বা দলের সংবিধান সংশোধন করে রাষ্ট্রধর্ম ইসলাম পরিবর্তনের কোনো চিন্তাভাবনা নেই।’

এরপর সাংবাদিকেরা বিএনপির সমাবেশ নিয়ে প্রশ্ন করতে চাইলে ওবায়দুল কাদের কোনো উত্তর না দিয়ে বলেন, আর কোনো প্রশ্ন নয়। তিনি সাংবাদিকদের উদ্দেশে বলেন, ‘আমিও একসময় সাংবাদিক ছিলাম। আমি আপনাদের অনুরোধ করব। আপনারা প্রাসঙ্গিক থাকবেন। সেদিন বিএনপির মহাসচিব মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম বলেছেন, আওয়ামী লীগের সাধারণ সম্পাদক নির্বাচিত হতে হবে। সেটার জবাব দিতে গিয়ে আমাদের দল থেকে মাহবুব উল আলম হানিফ সংবাদ সম্মেলন করলেন। অথচ আপনারা পরেই ওই বক্তব্য নেননি। আপনাদের অনুরোধ, আমরা যেটা নিয়ে সংবাদ সম্মেলন করব, সেটা নিয়েই থাকবেন।’

I mean seriously bengladesh would have made our women adopt this dirty bindi culture of theirs and force them to speak that rig vedic language called bengli which is like 0% Islamic. I mean I can pick out the Arabic and Farsi influences in Sindhi, Koshur, Pashto, Punjabi and so many other languages but when I heard bengli the first time I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. bengli culture is something I would stay miles away from. Each culture has its own beauty, Bengali culture is ancient and even has its own calendar. I congratulate you on your reasonable point of view....

If Bangladeshis were munafiqs and kaffirs then every village would not have a mosque, and every mahalla in every town would not have one either, which is the center of 'consciousness' for the community.

The brand of Islam in Bangladesh is not unlike Indonesia or Malaysia, whose tolerant local culture contains supposed 'non-Islamic' elements. Yet one cannot question the 'Iman' of Indonesians/Malaysians. And neither can one - for Bangladeshis.

If one has this kind of intolerant (I'd say un-Islamic) attitude, then they are welcome to go to Indonesia/Malaysia and question their Iman too. Try it sometime.

Islam can remain in people's hearts, you don't (necessarily) need a 'burka' or a 'topi' to justify it. Wearing a burka or a topi is a personal choice, not a religious mandate.

And hate for Hindus or Christians is not an Islamic mandate either.

More on topic - I don't think any sane govt. in Bangladesh is going to try to kick Islam out as state religion if they want to stay in power. It is as ridiculous as calling a Bangladeshi person a munafiq.

Why is this not more prominent news?

With more than 11 advanced weapons including a huge number of ammunition they arrest an Indian national, and the media headline is "An Indian National" arrested . Sounds so innocent.

Only if a bearded man with something related to Islam did this then now it become a Breaking News! Few days later people will forget the news and that Innocent Indian citizen will get bail. and we will see everyday secret killings and firefights between terrorist groups.
