Is Turkey a bad model for Arab states? Or is it a good model?

Turkey is a western country. Just because it is muslim majority countries does not mean it is easy to follow.
if you can follow turkey model, you can follow westminster model too.

I am doing my research about Turkey for a september backpack trip with my wife and nephew. Whatever I read is all positive about the place - a muslim majority country but a secular one - I think the best model for Arab countries to follow.

Ataturk once said something i really agree with:

''Hayatta en hakiki mürşit ilimdir''

which translates to something along the lines of

''Life's greatest mentor/guide is wisdom and knowledge''

hmmm...learning Turkish should be that difficult, without any prior knowledge of Turkish language I still understand four words in this little sentence.

hayatta...hayat (life)
hakiki....haqiqi (real)
mürsit....murshid (spiritual guide)
ilimdir....ilm (knowledge)

What all Muslim countries HAVE to take from Turkey is more freedom, personl freedom, equality no matter you race, color, religion, minority rights, because without that NO Muslim country would move forward, and achieve its potential, and more important without that their won't be actual democracy. Every person should be treated equally within his country, doesn't matter what he believes in. So, yes Turkey is a model for Arab states, and Muslim states too.

Personal freedom, democracy, equal rights, secularism, minority rights etc. are very western values (when I say western then Turkey is not included in this category). These qualities will be "imposed" on all those countries that lie at the fringes of Europe and desperately looking forward to be allowed to become a member of their prestigious EU club. Did you get the gist of what I am talking about? The other Arab countries didn't have this kind of luxury, but they still are doing damn good. Look at UAE and other Guld states, no matter what people say these guys are doing one hell of a job. First comes economic stability followed by democracy, human rights and other stuff.

You are right bro. These great languages enriched our languages immensely for which we are thankful to them.

Exactly, respecting human rights is such a sin, never do such a horrible thing. We should kill every person that doesn't agree with us, we are Muslims yah yah yah!!!

hayat (ta) = in life
ilim (dir) = being knowledge

conjunctions or inflections are adjacent with word in turkish..

Great Poet of the East, Allama Muhammad Iqbal (RA) said:

The tract of Constantinople, that is the Caesar's city
The perpetual banner of the grandeur of the Ummah's Mahdâ

Like the Haram's dust this region is also holy
It is the shrine of descendants of Shah-i-Lawlak

Its breeze is holy like the fragrance of rose
A voice is calling from the tomb of Ayyub Ansarâ

O Muslim! this city is the heart of the Nation of Islam !
This city is the reward for millenniums of blood sacrifices!

Then I'm truly sorry that you never read about Al-Andalusia or the Turkish Millet System.
