Is Turkey a bad model for Arab states? Or is it a good model?

Ataturk once said something i really agree with:

''Hayatta en hakiki mürşit ilimdir''

which translates to something along the lines of

''Life's greatest mentor/guide is wisdom and knowledge''

.
Oh come on guys, argue, but don't insult each other.

As I've said before, in terms of DEMOCRACY, the Turks, while the government is unIslamic, is an example for the Arabs because they have been suffering from dictatorship and human rights violations for decades. They look just a little north or northeast on the map, and wonder, how can a country so close to us that is Muslim be so much more free than what we are?

Now, that said, Turkey isn't the perfect example, but it is an example. There's a record of human right violations in Turkey, and according to statistics, Turkey is getting less free under the current government everyday.

Also, Quasar, I must add, the Turkish soldier in Afghanistan may actually be thought of in a good way if the Turks weren't helping the westerners and NATO forces in Afghanistan to begin with.

But that said, the Turks are doing much to help the Afghan people, being the only Muslim nation aside from the Albanians to be in NATO, and sharing a rich culture with the Afghans, the Turks are actually benefiting the Afghan people with their addition into Afghanistan rather than not.

And he prohibited the ilim (knowledge of truths)

AKP Party is a moderate Islamist party. To say that Turkish government is ''anti-Islam'' or ''un-Islamic'' is beyond ridiculous.

99% of Turkish population is Muslim for God's sakes. We are not talking about religious seminaries here; we are talking about ''best practices'' of Turkish governance and how it has benefited Turkiye and how similar practices can benefit other Muslim countries.

or wait, are we now getting distracted by other things instead of focusing on the topic?

didnt he place a lot of emphasis on education?

yeah but it was after the Arabs screwed over the Ottoman empire in favour of the british imperialists......the same people who enslaved our region. . .I think Ataturk was very bitter about the betrayal by the Arabs -- especially Gulf Arabs.

it was more to do with anti-Arabism than anti-Islamism. . . I genuinely do not believe Ataturk was anti-Islam. He was simply a secular who himself preferred to see the new nation progress and become a modern state. I respect that.

and those times are long over. You have to look at people's actions based on the historical context in which they grew up and in which they were living...now is 2012, let's focus on today brother. Turkey has also changed a lot, politics have changed

i think this thread can be very productive; but we should try to avoid politics and religion

Well,

1) ignoring/couldn't understanding the meaning of ''one of the'' is kind of a pshyco talk...

BTW: Turkish education program is really the one of the biggest projects ever.. Even the alphabet was changed... But clearly you cannot understand this ...

2) Compering Hitler and Mustafa Kemal is pshyco talk...

3) For my final words... You need to see some doctor for your problems...
