Is Chinese KJ-2000 AEW&C, Good for PAF?

.
Tami bhai what about the costumised IL 78 refueller tankers we bought from Ukraine?

. .
The IL-78s that we got as aerial tankers cum transporters are from old Soviet stocks in the Ukrainian arsenal, which got refurbished and sold to us. So those are for some other purpose, can't be changed to the AWAC role.
I’ll tend to disagree with you. If we can get A platform for one purpose, we can definitely get it for another. By using those platforms for refueling purposes will not give PAF any less access to the IL-78 technology than to use the same platform as the ‘Beast of Burden’ of the KJ-2000.

More relevant question is, whether the Ukrainians have more of them in surplus, and whether they are willing to sell them to us, and hand over to Chinese for fitting and integration of the KJ-2000.

Well Sir, i was referring to the ones that we got, the IL-78s, not as a whole about the other IL-78s. Definitely if we can buy more and the seller gives permission to change them into AWAC role, they can easily be done. But we need tankers and heavy transporters for now, so don't think these are gonna be changed into AWACs for time being.

Problem is that the indigenous Chinese transport version has many conflicting versions. CGI showing Y-20 design is something else, while the computer graphics or air tunnel models show some other design similar to IL-78 kind of thing.

So nothing clear as of yet, till we see the plane itself, which was supposed to be out in the open by last year end, but seems got delayed.

Plus, China and Russia were in negotiations for a large order if IL-78s a few years back, which broke down and the current fleet is old and needs replacement.

So personally, i believe the first priority for Chinese Aviation would be bring out something equal to or little better then the IL-78, as they need these badly, even their AWAC program is stuck due to this problem. Once such platform comes up, then they can go the much larger ones. Jumping from Y-8/9 to directly much heavier transport plane doesn't looks logical. Next step would be something IL-78 or better and then the heavy transport.

So lets see what transpires.

We need them for tankers and transporters.

If we had wanted to transform them to AWAC, then would have been done during the refurbishment.

So i believe PAF is for the time happy with the Erieye and the future Chinese AEW&C, once future requirements require a heavier AWAC, we can look into the platforms available.

Tami bro i meant that y dont we just go for more of these il 78 transport jets from uzbekistan where they are built?Or buy an equilent from chinese or even russians themselves?Russia is nobodys friend they can do anything for MONEY.

It is rumored that the Chinese have started to mount the KJ-2000 radar on Boeing 737-800 instead of IL-76.

The IL-78s are i believe not going to be manufactured in Ukraine (not Uzbekistan) anymore, the plant shifting / shifted to Russia as per few years back decision, so we can't buy new ones. yeah if they willing to sell good used airframes from their stocks, then may be we can opt for them.

Russia will not sell, or else we might have gone for brand new planes instead of getting used ones. Nor it seems will happen in new future.

China has no option yet.

Thanks Tami bro.
I read in in an indian def forum tht indians iL 78 bought from russians were built in uzbekistan.

Well i read on Chinese forums as a possibility, as for such to do I believe Boeing's permission would be needed and don't know how much Chinese would be able to modify the aircraft, if the original manufacturer is not involved. And no idea if a passenger purpose aircraft would be able to handle such modifications and the radar on its fuselage.

Well may be that time they had a plant there too, but we got them from Ukraine and now there is only one manufacturing facility, which is in Russia now, as they took over these plants to be the official representative of the company.
