yes a well tuned and efficient killing machine..
NE insurgents failed after almost 60 years of struggle because of several reasons:
- India broke Pakistan to eliminate sanctuary and ISI operation in East Pakistan, one reason why India helped the creation of Bangladesh and invests heavily to keep its friendly Awami League govt. in power. ULFA was doing ok till AL came in power in 2009 election
- China has no game plan to complete the job
- India has increased its influence with Burma, to reduce sanctuary there
If there is no great demographic invasion from "mainland" India, because of above reasons it makes sense for insurgents to go quiet, concentrate on peace dividend and integration with ASEAN and China's economy by land connection. If the demographics remain more or less the same, the geography will remain their biggest ally for any future peaceful secessionist movement, if there is a need.
